Or if you're willing to buy used, some older DSLRs go on sale for good prices on POTN or KEH. Off the top of my head, an XTi body goes for $250-$300 now. Old yet excellent camera. Pair it with a $70 18-55mm IS and you've got a great beginner's kit.
