Temp seems too low?

Thread Starter
I really thought through my airflow on my new build, but the temps seem too low to be accurate for me.

CPU before OC is idling at 18c... that's lower than the ambient room temp. How could that even be possible?

I'm running a prime blend test now on stock 2 core to compare to socket temp so I can get a general reading of temps with cores unlocked, and it's leveled off at 29c, it hit 30c for a a minute there.

Checking temps with speedfan, coretemp, and hwmonitor.

I thought load temps were supposed to be in the low 40's?

What kind of voltage is the CPU pulling at full load? Some chips just perform better than the rest and will require less voltage to run, thus less heat. Did you check temps using PC probe II (i see you have asus board)

Er... Looking now, if I can find which voltage that would be. HW's cpu vcore? 1.31-1.32.

I've also never heard of PC Probe II (I'm so new at this, but eager to learn) but I'm googling now...

EDIT: I really like the sound of the PC Probe II... can't wait to see its interface. I'm guessing it'll be more useful as its made for asus boards.

Yea man PC probe II should have came with our motherboard. If not, oyu can get from ASUS website. It's pretty good, shows you a ton of info. Another thing about it is that it seems a lot if not most of the ASUS guys use this to get temps and voltages, so when you read other posts you can compare your results more accuratly since they are prolly using the same tool

Am a little confused on your temps though. Y0u said it loaded at 30C at stock speed, only 2 cores? I have seen temps like this before on a PII Callisto 550 before, even with that crap stock heatsink.

If you are really concerned about it, load it up for a bit and touch the heatsink with yourf finger. If it's hot(not just *warm*) to to the touch and your readings are still <30C, then perhaps the sensor is jacked up or something. Otherwise, be happy you got a good chip!

Yep, 30c @ load on stock 2 core, 3.4ghz. Todays mission is to find the max stable OC running as a dual and as a quad. As standard core temps don't work when it's unlocked, I've been looking for the right tools to gauge the temp based on the socket temp.

Is 30c too high for stock speed at load? What's a safe temp for load?

ANOTHER EDIT: Installed and have fallen in love with PC Probe.

No man, 30C at full load for 3.4Ghz is great stuff!

You are correct about the temp sensors screwing up when you unlock the other cores. I cant rmemeber how the temps look in PC probe when unlocked... been a while since I did one.

The max tmep for these chips is 62C (for thuban - not sure about deneb) I would think you chips is right around there as well. You prolly wont get close to that temp until you start getting closer to 1.5Vcore

You can't have a CPU that is lower than the ambient temp, think about it. Unless you're running a chilled wc setup, nope.
I wouldn't worry about the idle temp, sensors in CPUs aren't designed to perform well at lower temperatures (because no-one cares about idle temps), but are important to be accurate for load temperatures.

Load temps seem low, but I'm not familiar with those AMD CPUs so will leave it to others to comment, maybe you've just got a good cooling setup and chip
