think of it like this, how do you think admin pays for OCN every month/year

yep.

ads.

So, to everyone who thinks the internet would be a better place without ads, think of it like this

Where would you watch videos, YouTube wouldn't exist, Vimeo wouldn't exist, no video site would. Why? Ad revenue pays for their bandwidth and servers.

Ads and Ad revenue make the internet exist, without Ads there would be no profit, without profit no sites would be able to be paid for. Without sites, the internet does not exist.
Google and Yahoo I know generate plenty of revenue from sources other than ads. (i.e Android phones, fantasy football hosting, upgraded email, etc.) Most of the best freeware producers don't use ads for revenue either. They sell upgraded pay-for versions of the free app and do quite well with it.

I once ran a small forums dedicated to performancing Hondas. I never ran any ads or anything for profit. I did it because it was something I enjoyed and wanted to create a place where information could be shared about it. Ads are a complete waste of internet bandwidth and I think its completely inept to ignore this side of the argument. If there were no ads the entire internet wouldn't disappear, we would just be left with the useful, informative sites that were not created for the sole purpose of generating revenue.

Firefox 4.0 + Adblock FTW!

How does google make money from android? They give it away (no licensing), unless you're talking about the market, which is a different story.

Good job demonstrating that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Pretty much all of Google's income is from AdWords. Everything else is a side project that they operate for fun.
