Team Fortress 2 framerate issues

Thread Starter
This is the only game I have a problem with. I run deadspace 2 and bulletstorm at 1920x1080 maxed and I get a solid 60fps.

I have run it with Chris's TF2 config files (i've tried them all), this gives me a couple more frames but I am still dipping into the 20's durring heavy firefights. I tried new and old catalyst drivers as I was having huge problems with the 11.2 drivers and am currently running 10.6. I have reinstalled TF2, also running mat_queue_mode 2 (enabled dual core).

I know TF2 is CPU intensive and I wouldn't be opposed to spending $150 or so to get a used quad but I'm not sure its going to help.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's the CPU, even my 3 cores have trouble running it during 32 person fights.

But if when you're alone in a place on a map and it dips below 60, then it's something else.

Unstable CPU overclock will hurt frames on this game. If you are 100% sure of it, back it down to stock and see how frames are at that point.

The game is more CPU dependent than it is GPU.

I have stress tested my overclock but ill give it a shot at stock speeds when I get home. Do you think a quad would give me significant FPS gains?

Go to steam games library

Right click on game name -> properties

Find the option "Verify game cache". Do that

Afterwards, do "defrag game files"

That worked for me when I had those issues on my last rig.

Your CPU is fine. Mine runs the game very very smoothly.

can you take a lossless screenshot with a decent distance in front of it? I have a problem where my system goes from 200frames to under 80, and things are soft and blurred the futher away they are. This is true for CS:S as well
