--- Risking life, limb and voltage for 5ghz --- - Page 3

Thread Starter
I've been using the default Blend option in prime95, which starts at 8k and works upwards very slowly. I never thought to use a custom size until ur advice of 1024k FFts, rep+

I appreciate that majority of SB chips can't safely do 5ghz 24/7. The few that can are truly golden and who knows how much effort their owners went into to getting them.

At end of the day, >4.5ghz is already a luxury (not to mention SB architecture improvement on clock-4-clock), and the extra voltage, heat and risk is just not worth the extra 4% improvement. Though I do admire the guts / budgets of people who push 1.45v+ for 5ghz+.

my 2500k will do 5ghz at 1.46v and max temp at 100% load is around 67c using a noctua NH D-14 cooler.
I can encode movies and play latest games no problem, although i have not tried prime95 or anything like that.
cinebench 11.5 gives me a score of 7.80 if i knew it would not degrade at 1.46v i would leave it at 5ghz but i dont want to kill it so i keep putting it back down to 4.6ghz at 1.38v

You very lucky to have that chip... get yourself a better cooler maybe some water cooling and you set to run that kind of Volts or higher if you please 24/7 all day everyday.

Enjoy your 2% of the great chip from Intel.
