When can I start folding?

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

Sorry for the dumb question but I've recently bumped my 2.7Ghz processor to 3.1Ghz and have a whole 24hrs of light use and 6+ hrs of prime95 and no crashes/errors. I'll continue running prime95 at night to be sure it can do math ok.

When, in your opinion, will it be safe to fold and not return bad data? I'm using the GPU client and the GPU is stock (for now....). Does folding do any auto-error checking or could an unstable cpu hurt their results?

Thanks!

From what I've been told, unstable CPUs will hurt the results.

Every third wednesday

Actually if your cpu is stable you can fold. If its not stable it'll either crash or restart
post #4 of 18
folding in itself is a stability test, probably the best actually

in my experience, synthetic tests like linx or prime95 have no correlation to f@h stability

Theres stable and there folding stable. If your arent stable, then you will see errors. These can be failed WU's, lock ups or even BSOD's. Most of the time, overclocks are the main cause of failed WU's.

took me a good 2 days to dial my cpu in to folding stable...and i mean i ran it prime for 24 hrs, and it still failed WU's in folding, run folding, if it fails units continueally, bump voltage to compensate

uhoh. 3 for one against.

Sounds like in general folding at home knows when things go bad with the hardware. I'll let it run for awhile. GPU-folding ... so I imagine the C-pu isn't really contributing much anyways. Guess I'll see what happens. Usually there's redundancy in a project this big so one person can't screw things up.

I have little voltage space to maneuver. 1.47 seems high for 3.1 and ... I don't wanna surpass 1.5v due to my mobo's 4+1 phase power.

Use something like IntelBurnTest or Linx to check for stability.
Folding@home is not a stability test nor should it be used as one.

JUST LET HER RIP.... This will tell you wether she's stable or not... If your not sure you are 100% stable, then expect some blue screening.

lol what? it's a great stability test... being stable in ibt or linx does not mean you'll be stable in fah so he'd just be wasting his time

this. if bsod, bump voltage and continue folding, simple as that
