Need input on build

Thread Starter
So I've read threads and did some digging but I'm still unsure on the best direction to go with my HTPC.

Here's what I want out of it:

Trying to replace my home DVR and go to very basic cable. I want to record over the air TV as well as stream Netflix, Hulu, ect. Play and record Blu-Ray / Hi-def content. Some light console emulation gaming (NES, SNES, Genesis). Also want to leave system open for future home theater sound 7.1 audio. I plan on using Window's Media Center for the time being.

Budget: Don't want to go over $600 looking for Price/performance build

I Have ram(4GB DDR3) and an OS to use.

My plans:

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811204040

Blu-Ray: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135234

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121397

TV Tuner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815116015

Mobo CPU combo:

AMD-Biostar
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...mbo614549-LM2A

Intel-Biostar
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...mbo614159-LM3A

Power Supply: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...ryx0sNne2Zp5aA

Did I miss anything?
Suggestions on a better component for price. I'm really unsure about which route to take with the Mobo/CPU. Not sure if the onboard graphics with an i3 will work for what I need...

Thanks for your opinions

AMD, definitely.

Edit:
An i3 wouldn't be a bad choice, though. You can overclock the first gen chips to hell and back (~4.4GHz). However, I'd still recommend a dedicated GPU if you take that route.

Everything else looks good to me!

Thanks.

Noticed I missed a hard drive. Might try and find a 2TB 5400rpm for $70.00 deal.

I kind of wanted to stear clear of the i3 based on price. Seems like I could get away with something cheaper that will perform satisfactory to my needs.

Also consider getting an air mouse. I have one of the gyration ones that I used for an htpc for a while and it was great for working on the big screen from the couch!

The reviews seemed decent enough on Newegg.

Is there an HTPC issue here? Or just a quality issue?

Edit: Biostar customer support? Also I don't plan on OC'ing my HTPC.

Phenom II X2 555 - $90 Newegg
GIGABYTE GA-MA78LMT-S2 - $60 Newegg

$595 after 40 MIR

This is a low profile system, great for HTPC... If i had more $, I'd get a better case (personal preference is Lian Li PC-C37B), better Motherboard (ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3), larger HDD (SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3/4), and probably a better Power Supply (but can't beat $20 for an OCZ) but everything else I would keep for a pretty high end HTPC...

How about this?

CPU: Phenom II x2 555
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 5450 1GB
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F4
PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 2 500W
Blu-ray: Asus Blu-ray Burner
TV Tuner: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1850
Case: Apevia X-MASTER-BK

With the MIRs ($15 for case/$15 for GPU) it will be $600 exactly. However, you get a nice 8+2 motherboard and a CPU that is very likely to unlock to a Phenom II x4.

I don't recommend using a 3+1 phase motherboard if he plans on unlocking that Phenom II.

That's still only a 4+1 phase motherboard.

The OCZ StealthXStream 2 actually has some pretty good internals. And, like you said, it's only $20 bucks. I wouldn't recommend anything else.
