64bit is ok, but a GPU app will be more beneficial. My GPU processes tasks about 10 times quicker then my 64bit CPU.

Release a GPU app lol.

gpus cant process the same data, and the same kinds of data that a cpu can process. thats why everyone doesnt write a program for gpus. as far as wcg goes, they are more like boinc, a central point where other programs can join together to get work processed. wcg doesnt write any of the code for any of the projects, therefor its up to each individual project to write an app for gpu work.

Adding on to DarkRyder's post, I do remember reading on a BOINC project's message board (the name of it isn't coming to me right now) regarding GPU calculations. The project administrators stated that the GPU application was no better than the CPU application. This explains why there are many projects that do not currently support GPUs and do not have the intention of ever supporting GPU computation.

the way it was explained to me was gpus since the processing is done by threads essentially (in the cuda cores for nvidia and the stream processors for ati) they are designed to process a small chuck of data really fast and have a limit to as the size of how big the chuck of data can be, as well as a limit to the size of the algorithm and the bit size of data you are trying to compute. The way cpus have been made now for years doesn't have those limitations. I have asked these questions for years. especially with seti and changing the size of their work units. i've been told that if they increased the size for the workunits then there is more likely going to be data reliability issues; meaning there will be more errors in processing of the data.

I enjoy being a part of wcg because of of many updates to their applications and research they provide. They make the crunchers feel important, which cannot be said of some other projects

I wouldn't go as far as VERY unreliable, but the researchers behind the Help Conquer Cancer project posted an update a good time ago about how the GPU application was less accurate, but wasn't to the point that it would be a significant concern since they would also be doing CPU work units smile.gif
