Which brand for 6950 2gb

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm looking at 6950s, a likely unlockable 2gb one.

I'm looking at Tigerdirect right now (I know) since I have a coupon there and can save an extra bit of money.

I was looking at 2 of them in particular:

Powercolor
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7092100&CatId=3669

and

XFX
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...952&CatId=3669

Based on what I've read recently, it seems like XFX RMA has kind of slipped as of late, but I don't really know.
I don't know anything about Powercolor RMA either.

Also, both of those are possibly unlockable, right? Black PCB and 2gb.

If you have any other suggestions as to which brands are good, please let me know. (from Tigerdirect though)

I haven't had experience with Powercolor RMA, but I have heard that it isn't anything special. The lifetime warranty through XFX would sell it for me. My friend used the XFX RMA about a year ago and he had nothing but good things to say about it, so it's kind of hit or miss with any company it would seem so I would base your decision off of the warranty/price.

And yes, either should be unlockable.

After looking through the 6950 options on TG, I would personally be going with the XFX myself. If the Asus or Sapphire were cheaper I would possibly go with them, but you just can't beat that lifetime warranty.

I would think the PowerColor is the one to choose. Not a fan of the XFX cards.

I agree. Powercolor is decent.
And RMA issues aside XFX has sketchy Circuitry and PCBs.
Especially on non-reference designs(which this isnt).

The best 6950 is Asus
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-416-_-Product
A little factory overclock, and you can flash it to 6970 if you want with the doble bios. And the aluminium case witch keep the heat .

thanks for the input guys.

@necroraven: the ASUS one is a bit too expensive for me.

The XFX lifetime warranty is very appealing, but it seems like powercolor might have better quality?

Thats what I would say.
XFX non-reference cards are horribad and XFX reference cards seem to just be made poorly or something. They are able to be cheap and offer powerful cards because somewhere in there they cut corners. I dont see too many XFX cards that last a respectable amount of time, and the lifetime warranty only applies if you get lucky and have your RMA accepted and dealt with.

XFX has such a mixed track record that buying something from them for a warranty you know full well they are just as likely to refuse as they are to honor is just a poor decision IMO.

PowerColor isnt as big as ASUS, MSI or Sapphire, but they make a decent quality product and stand behind it. RMA with them is not always fast, but its usually pretty easy and ive never found it to be particularly unreasonable.
