Time for a new phone, what do I get?

Well, I'm getting a phone from this carrier named Iusacell. These guys have great plans and smartphones, they use both CDMA and GSM (3G 850/1900 bands) so there's a huge variety of mobile phones to choose from.

The problem? I don't know what to get

The following phones are those I'm interested in:

Motorola Droid X (Sold here as Motoroi X)
Apple iPhone 4 32GB GSM edition
HTC Incredible
HTC Desire A
Blackberry 9780
Blackberry Pearl 2

I pretty much don't know what to get. I'd like something that can record HD video and has as much functionality as the iPhone 4, so I guess that leaves us with the iPhone and the Android phones.

No fanboyism please, what should I get and why?

can you get the htc evo or evo shift? i absolutely LOVE my shift. 8mp camera, plus it is very snappy.

as an android user, my parents both have LG optimus S and the interface sucks compared to my HTC Sense interface.

basically, if i were you i would go with an HTC phone. i have used a droid 2 and droid x and wasn't impressed because i didn't like the screen response (might be different for you, but that was my impression of it) i personally don't agree with iPhones, although the 4g has a very nice camera, but if you want HD recording, it is not true HD, it is scaled up, as is most apple cameras. i have heard good things about the incredible but have not had time to play with one.

bottom line: i would stick with HTC, and recommend evo/evo shift (i assume you can purchase from any carrier with the one you have)

good luck!

Out of those android phones I say the desire and incredible, they have the biggest Dev base (this is assuming you want to hack it). Otherwise the iPhone if its at a good price.

The reason I don't reccomend the bb's is because they are pure business phones and the Droid x is too plasticy for my tastes

I would go with either the HTC Desire or iPhone 4.

I ruled out the Droid X and Blackberries because Motorola have a bad reputation regarding development and updates. Some of their previous phones were due for Froyo (Android 2.2) but was never released. I wouldn't get a Blackberry because it's more for business use.

Here in Canada, the HTC Desire is due to get Gingerbread (Android 2.3) this Spring but I'm not sure if your carrier will release that update or not.

I'm an Android fan but I can't really say the iPhone 4 is bad. It lacks some of the customization options you have with Android but it would definitely meet your needs.

If there's an option to wait a bit, there's a bunch of new phones being released by carriers in US/Canada. Check with your carrier and see what other options you may have. Phones like the Motorola Atrix 4G, LG Optimus 2X or the HTC Thunderbolt would be more ideal.
