begone fear monger, stop associating the issues in japan with chernobyl, it accomplishes nothing but instilling fear into people's minds. I want to state this very clearly, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR THIS REACTOR TO GO OFF LIKE CHERNOBYL DID!, the fuel used is different as is the method of fission. Chernobyl exploded and spewed radiation across many miles, the worst possibility with this reactor is that the containment vessel breaks and radiation starts leaking out at which point the wind could take it away and spread it, however, it will not explode like Chernobyl.

I'm still thinking about mechs.

chances are demand for the keyboards isn't high enough to saturate current supplies, I wouldn't worry about it

According to the economists most things produced in Japan are going to see price increases in the short to medium term. As of rigth now there is very little power in Japan. After talking to some vendors of my companies in Japan they are saying that alot of the bullet trains are not working and nor are elevators in most buildings due to the shortage. Most factories are being temporarily shut down as they cannot run and staff cannot get to work unless they are within walking distance. Once current stock levels start to reduce prices will most likely go up (suppy Vs demand) if you really want one, get it now or wait a little while.

For what its worth, I dont think this was a morally corrupt question at all. Had the OP denegrated the Japanese nation or those that were lost then my stance would be different. But he did not so I dont have an issue and neither should anyone else reading this thread.

I'm really not trying to argue pointlessly here...
But one of the reactors has a pool full of spent nuclear fuel that needs to be cooled to be kept stable. It is unknown whether or not the water in this pool has been partially or completely dried up. Given that, it is possible that this collection of fuel rods could go critical and that would cause a large and sustained release of radiation and radioisotopes into the atmosphere. Sorry but I am actually somewhat educated about the workings of nuclear reactors and radiation. I obviously wasn't implying that Chernobyl is going to happen again.

I am aware of the dried fuel, maybe its dry maybe its not current reports aren't getting very clear info, however, the worst case scenario would be large amounts of radiation being carried off by the wind. The reactor isn't going to explode like Chernobyl did, and by relating the two situations to each other that is often what people's minds go to, after having read nearly every post in the extensive thread on the tsunami I am very tired of people scaring others by making the situation seem worse than it is, whether it is intentional or not.

hundreds of people die everyday in even worse conditions than this in parts of africa and asia. alot of people cant even afford to feed themselves in the best of times, let alone in times of natural disaster, but i dont see anyone getting *****ed at when they are spending 2k on their new rig because it could be 'better' spent on starving kids around the world
I think this thread is just one bad joke, like that girl from UCLA talking about asians . And that assumption of him donating is highly unlikely. He might do just that after reading this or your quote, but then again that is another assumption.
