Water cooling causing hard shutoff during benchmark? - Page 3

Did anyone mention that maybe it is the pump? Unless the powersupply is faulty, then that cant be the problem. Sounds like everything was running fine until the loop was put in right? Sounds like some kind of short to me. That could only mean that the loop was leaking (which you would have noticed im sure by now), or perhaps the pump has issues?

Thank you all so much for your input. I will +1 you all when I get off my phone. Yeah the pc ran great until my loop install. It runs great when just browsing a such bit gaming and benchmarking crash it. Guess I should go to microcenter and try a new one and return it if the prob still happens lol

I agree about the pump since it was the most recent change... throw your heatsink/fan back on your CPU and shut down the pump. I bet the system runs fine.

I just thought of something. You know that 8 pin connector that connects for the cpu power on the motherboard? Well my cables were not long enough to reach on the back side so I bought a molex powered connector that powers the 8 pin cpu. I have the pump on the same power strand as this. Is it possible the pump is throwing the voltage off the strand, thus effecting the 8 pin cpu power?

well now I think the problem is the 8 pin adaptor to the molex. I do not think your motherboard is getting enough power. you will need a 8 pin extension cable for the 8 pin coming from the psu. I think that is your problem. do not try power the cpu by using molex to 8 pin adaptor.

Yes your overloading one of the rails with the 8 pin on the molex imo try runnning it in front of the motherboard so it fits and running it like that see if it shuts off.

I really think that may be the issue. When water cooling I decided it would look a lot better going behind the mono and had a molex to 8 pin power laying around so I threw it in there. I will try the 8 pin that is on the psu when I get home. Thank you all so much for your input. I will + you when I get home Anyone else think this is the issue too? I don't know much about power.

Rule of thumb: NEVER EVER use adaptors for high power sources, aka GPU, MB. They only give problems.

Solder some cable extensions to the 8pin (I did in my PSU due to the same issue), and it should be fine.

Microcenter sells an 8 pin extention cable. That should be ok right?
