Desk options?

Thread Starter
Ok, so this is what my setup has for a desk:

My Parents first bought this desk in 99' i think, but i know its at least 10 years old because the computer it first housed came with Windows ME (that is "Millennium Edition", the Vista before Vista).

I have Modified it a little bit to fit my needs. as you can see in this picture i have extended the side and removed the cabinet which now resides on the floor beside it (what the laptop is sitting on top of):

What you can probably also tell from the pictures is that this desk was designed for use with 4:3 CRT monitors up to 19" thus the usable desk surface is reduced because the LCD's that currently reside on it cannot fit in that space, and those towers cannot simply be removed.

The Short and Skinny is that this desk is a totally inefficient WASTE OF SPACE and i want to replace it.

Ive seen some Nice desks on the computer room thread, but haven't been able to find any locally that would fit in this space well. I have Heard that IKEA makes really good desks (such as the Gallant series) but i have no way to look at one of these desks with my own eyes as i live in Spokane and the Nearest IKEA store is in Seattle.

Short of Building my Own desk (which i don't think i would do well) i don't have many options to look by myself, so i thought i would Ask you guys what you like for your desks.

I'm looking for something that is efficient where i can have all my stuff and also place to work on things without having to shove everything else out of the way (i.e. working on my drawing tablet or someone's PC) I Can post more pictures so you can see what kind of space i have to work with if you guys want it. so again, i want your input on desks. Looking forward to your opinions

Nothing fancy but I like these desks. Nice, deep, flat unobstructed surface. You can put a couple of them together or add related pieces to it. I had a couple of them years ago and had to sell them during a move. Wish I had them back.

I think you could easily make a desk like the ikea one you listed. I wouldn`t pay $160 for it.

Hey those mounting brackets are nice !!

If money is an issue I know someone who used two large folding tables for a huge L desk. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/ca...ategoryId=1330 Works great and if they want to upgrade down the road the tables have endless uses. Just a thought.

Building it yourself rairly works out to be as cost effective as you might think. Building materials especially wood prices can add up very quickly. It would be better no doubt, but unless you have access to free or very cheap building supplies not to mention already have all the tools needed it is usually much cheaper just to purchase a "kit" type desk.

Thanks for that link... I have been contemplating wall mounting my monitor for some time now.. This is an even better way of doing it as now I don't have to drill holes in the apartment walls.. (even though they don't mind you wall mounting items.)
