I'm sorry but this must be one of the dumbest statements I've read on the subject. So its all OK that Crytek is giving us same or even worse quality product than 3 years ago due to the fact they made it primarily for the consoles ?
And don't be so sure about those framerates or gameplay too , from what i saw both of them are not that great , and gameplay feels like it's been made for semi retarded 12 year old.All i saw to this day has been:

MAXIMUM FAIL

Tech really hasn't advanced much since then. The only thing of note is the Dx 11 stuff and IMO, GPU's aren't strong enough to handle it. Look at the LITTLE Dx 11 that Metro 2033 did in it's cramped spaces and you'll understand. Throw a grenade in Metro 2033 and watch your framerate drop to single digits. I can't blame Crytek for valuing gameplay and framerate over graphics.

They made a MISTAKE the first time when they made the game so advanced that not even multi-gpu solutions could run it properly. And unlike 4A studios, Crytek doesn't have a favorable COLA where its studios are located ( What's $1 US to someone in the Ukraine? )
crysis 1 was released 3,5 years ago at the time the best GPU was a gtx 8800 ultra afaik, I don't know about you but I think a gtx 580 is immensly more powerful and has so much more potential. Even if crysis 2 came out and could be maxed at the time of release unlike crysis 1 it should look better than it does. I'd give it a tie with the original crysis since crysis 2 has worse water effects, foliage, environments etc. But better effects and that stuff.

Actually I don't even care too much about the DX version. But I think that we now have so much brute processing power available that crytek could have developed another crysis 1 like technological pioneer game. Though I'd like to see devs move on to more advanced APIs, I know that using dx 10 or something you'd be able to do incredible graphics by just using a HUGE textures, very heavy post processing, lots of high detail models on the screen at a time etc.

And whatever if we couldn't max the game now? I don't get the people who go on to complain that they can't max a game. Why not look at it like this: When you get a new computer in the future you can go back to the game and get some more replayability when it looks better than it did before. That's one of the things that has kept crysis 1 alive for so many years. People like to fire it up when they get a new rig or a new GPU, they get a different experience from it with new, better hardware.

that's exactly what i did , i had 8600 when Crysis came out and this game was a sole reason I've upgraded to 9800GX2. And with every upgrade i got for my PC since than i played Crysis all over again .............. than again i played it even without the upgrades cuz i love this freaking game I've finished it again when i got 2nd GTX480 couple weeks ago.Crytek made an epic game which set graphics standard for years , so you you can't blame people for expecting same WOW! factor and amazing graphics from the sequel. After making this superb looking game now they try to feed us this console reeking port and we supposed to be happy ?

I ain't worried about what direct x version they intend to use, yes dx11 will be nice but they will include it later in the patch so i ain't complaining there. All i care about is the Sandbox 3
Well stop caring, the game isn't shipping with it...

that's because it doesnt have DX11 yet. be patient.

Its funny how many people (like me) have already finished this game and played much Multiplayer but people are happy over screenshots. >.>

I doubt they will have DX11 We will be lucky to get DX10 haha...

(I don't know a whole bunch about what sorta things they're doing graphic wise for this game)

+1 for BF3

My main point from the start has been to give EVERY game some time before whining non-stop. Let the damn thing come out first before we can determine what it is and isn't.

My other point was that technology hasn't improved much in that we can't run a Unigine-Heaven-tessellation-like game with 10-15 players on the screen. 9/10ths of ALL Dx 11 GPUs today ( and remember that Dx 11 is only 5.6% of all PCs ) can barely run the Heaven benchmark in the 20's and that's not with a SINGLE moving character! I think my 5850 gets mid 20's in Heaven. Could you imagine what it might get with 1 single moving tessellated character? Probably single digits.

Metro 2033 is great, but throw a grenade and you're getting 4 FPS! Tessellation and the particles are great but only the top 1% multi-gpu setups can run a GAME with Dx 11 in heavy use.

Because that's a horrible way for Crytek to do business. Invest a few extra million on tech that will net them ZERO extra dollars. How does that make them money NOW or in the future to have a game that you can't maximize now? It doesn't. It's great for benchmarkers to use but how many hundreds of benchmarkers are there and how many games will they buy?

Now don't get me wrong, b/c I play Crysis 1 from time to time too, and I'm one of the few that enjoys the story AND the gameplay of Crysis 1.....but how many extra dollars did that net them? Zero. It sold you 2 or 3 GPUs but it netted them 1 single sale.

I get it, you're probably young and you want to be wowed. You want the Michael Bay of FPS's. I'd rather have a FUN game with good graphics than a game that makes me go WOW as it gets 8 FPS.

And this whole idea of a DX11 patch that will significantly increase the quality of graphics is crazy. Yes, a patch might be released. But the difference will be MINIMAL at best. When a developer shows pre-release footage of a game, they ALWAYS make it look the very best it possibly can, better even than actual gameplay due to the use of cinematic sequences. The fact that all pre-release footage of Crysis 2 does not even look as good as Crysis 1 is a VERY bad sign. I will bet you $20 the graphics will never improve over what we have seen in the pre-release footage.
Crysis 2 is on par with Crysis 1. People who say otherwise are adding in mods.

Well 90% of the 'zomg it's a PORT' complaints have been about the most mundane things. The bumpmapping on a building roof. The quality of ground detail. You don't think Dx 11 can fix that? Dx 11 tessellation was MADE for stuff like that. Just go look at the Heaven benchmark if you think differently.

Nice straw man.

Do yourself a favor and tell me how many of the above GPU's wouldn't drop to single digits using Dx 11 if you:

- threw a grenade in Metro 2033
- added even HALF of the Heaven Benchmark's tessellation to go with the 10 or so moving enemies on your screen

My point was that we haven't advanced far enough to where anything less than the top 1% of gamers can run Dx 11 smoothly when it is used moderately, not to mention heavily. This is also why new consoles are so far away. They know that tessellation and particles are the next big thing but the GPU tech out right now to run it is expensive and still too slow.

But it seems my point escaped you since you opted for sarcasm instead of intelligent dialog.

If you're stupid enough to equate graphics to the entire quality of said product then sure, why not.

So by your definition, the Heaven Benchmark is the GOAT game?
