Steam question

Thread Starter
Should be getting an ssd later today so was just wondering how hard it would be to transfer about half of my steam games to this ssd while keeping the games I don't play all that often on my mechanical drive.

I saw a topic talking about that steam mover program earlier but nobody was doing this I don't think. People were just talking about installing steam onto their ssd and then having the games on the mechanical, which I may just do in the end if there is no real benefit to be had.

Anyone know if SC2 would load quicker on an ssd since it seems to load really slow.

BTW, how hard is it to move the OS over to the SSD... do you need to reformat?

I'm going to do a clean install of windows seven. Don't think there is any other way really. Got a folder set up with most of the applications I am going to install after that all set up as well.

It's not worth it.
You won't see any performance increase, except in the loading times.
And the games take so much space on the SSD so it's really not worth it.

Steam as a backup option, just back up the games you play more often, then install steam on your new SSD and go the backup files of the games you did and run the exe to restore them. Is not very quick but is the "official" way to do it. Oh and dont forget you game saves files that usually are on my ../my documents if i remember well.

Well all I expected were faster load times with doing it this way but guess it might be to much of a hassle for only a few seconds

Also as aboved mentioned i wouldn't dump all in the SSD, i personally use my 120gb ssd for the OS and a couple important programs and then Steam and other junk all in a 1tb hard drive in raid 0.

Ya won't be using it all just on it. Actually getting another ssd soon since intel had a promotion that bundled shogun 2 with their ssds so I picked that up which I will be using for games mostly.

Actually, about Steam, you Can just copy all the contents of the steam folder (except Steamapps) and place them in another steam folder in your SSD, then copy the games you often play in Steamapps folder to your SSD, and leave the others behind.

If you want me to explain in more detail, just say so. =P
