Effects of reservoir placement?

I'm contemplating a build that places the reservoir relatively low within a loop. What effect does this have on the filling/bleeding process? Will water flow back out of the reservoir or will it make a seal similar to those seen in bathyspheres?

I had a low reservoir on my last loop. Initial setup isn't easy because I had the pump above the res; had to twist and turn the case to get the pump to suck water. It was fine after that. Draining is easy because the water will flow down into the res; all you have to do is depressurize the loop by removing another component or adding a fillport somewhere in the line.

The reservoir is usually placed right above the pump so the pump as a constant feed of water. Doing this insures the pump never runs dry.

The reservoir can be placed anywhere and work however.

correct, you wouldn't want to run the pump whilst it's dryed otherwise you will destroy its components,

Only thing I'd worry about is the pump running dry.

The pump shall still be below the reservoir, I'm more concerned that water would flow out of the reservoir if it's opened , such as during filling or for topping off.

Nah, you should be fine. I have my res kind of in the middle of my loop, vertically speaking, and I can open up the top port without anything bad happening even if the pump is running.

I have a similar situation with my loop. When I take the cap off my reservoir nothing happens, as the seal prevents water from flowing down from higher points in the loop. If I take a hose off it's fitting above the reservoir the seal will be broken and water will flow back up and out of the reservoir. It really isn't a huge deal and it only makes bleeding slightly more difficult.
