8GB vs 16GB with 2600K

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I'm getting a 2600k soon and since I wanted to go overkill on the ram I decided to get a LOT.

Now the thing is, I could either go with two kits of this

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-322-_-Product

which I can run also at 2000mhz 6-9-6-24-1T Timings for a total of 8GB (2x 2x2GB) or two kits of 2x4GB of any ram kit on newegg.ca
such as this one http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820233147

So, which one would be the best in your opinion and why?

Also, even though the G.Skill was designed for i7 860-870, will it be able to run at the same timings with a sandy bridge? And will I be able to have 2x 2x2GB at the speed they were designed for even though it says on their website that its possible that only two dimms can run those are that speed?

Thanks a lot guys =D!

i dont c any use goin to 16 GB , its purely a overkill
8 GB its self is too much , but i can understand 8 GB may be sometimes u might need .

if u r looking for the ultimate then that is perfect 6-9-6-24
1.65 V works perfectly with sandybridge

but preferbly u can go for a 1.5 V kit ..
always less voltage is less heat

G Skill has few them @ 1.5V and 2000 mhz at ultra low timming - (2 x 2 GB kits) so u might need 2 of them .

but 16 GB is waste for mutli media and gamming purpose

I'd get 2x4 instead of 2x2x2, its just a waste of wattage otherwise. Additional heat too..

I know its overkill. And that's exactly why I want that =P. and also, I checked but theres no low timings with their 1.5v kits. Its only stuff at like 9-11-9 or 8-11-9 and stuff like that. Makes me cringe.

I am pretty sure there is CL7 @ 1.5 V this is more than enough and u might able clock to CL6

It's overkill in that it's completely unnoticeable unless your planning on having some RAM disks or tons of virtual machines or something.

Go for 8GB with tighter timings if you want overkill

I actually noticed a fair difference going from 6gb to 12gb,
windows went from using ~2gb to about 3gb but start up if ever so slightly quicker.
I mainly use all of it in photoshop etc.
