[OXM] From Morrowind to Skyrim: how Bethesda built its latest gameworld

Assembling a realm as vast and lore-saturated as this would surely take legions of Nordic deities centuries, nay, millennia of effort. Actually, the next Elder Scrolls game has been in development for a little under five years, with a level design team of eight. But that's a long time for a videogame, and a hefty step up in manpower since Bethesda's last trip through Tamriel, Oblivion.

I really cannot wait for this game!

I could never get into Elder Scrolls for some reason. I know a lot of people who are pumped for this game and they look at me weird when I ask "why?"

Skyrim boasts fewer major cities than Oblivion - five as against nine
Streamlining as they like to call it.

Good to see I'm not the only one

I am happy for the fans as well. I liked it when I told my Sociology partner about it because I knew she liked Oblivion and Morrowind and her eyes just open full delight at the news of Skyrim being released

We have a lot of different views when it comes to which games are good

My only prior experience was the dos version and other dos western rpgs.

I bought morrowind bundled with the expansion packs. Created a character, interacted with the environment, so far so good. Very good graphics and voice acting. Then comes the 1st mission: go to that town.

I started walking. 5 minutes, no town. 10 minutes, no town. 15 minutes, no town. After half an hour i reached the town. During the way i was supposed to admire the scenery, gather mushrooms and fight two toads.
I uninstalled the game and never bothered with it again due to the boredom shock.
In the dos rpg things are more fast and straightforward.

Step 1: Steal things in the starting town
Step 2: Sell them to get some money
Step 3: Take the Silt Strider. You're there.
