And less features? What? The 890FX has as many as PCIe lanes as x58, 890GX and below match P55...The only feature I can think of as missing is RAID5, but if you're using that on anything but a dedicated RAID card, you're doing it wrong, plus, SB850 has 6 SATA6Gbit ports whereas P67 only has 2, I don't know which chipset you've been watching but AMD is equal to Intel in features at this point.
ok you got me. just do a recent comparison between X58 and 890 and see almost no big differences. just that i don't follow AMD chipset often because my first and only build is intel and i only did research on intel

but still, intel is more expensive platform wise because its CPU simply has more performance per core and clock than AMD currently.
plus, AMD motherboards are cheaper because they do not put the pins on the sockets, they put it on their CPU. intel put the gold pins on their socket and that raises the price of the board.

and yes some people would just upgrade/buy the CPU alone. such as a person who had a i7 920 later decided to upgrade to i7 990X 'cause he just got hired to do some professional editing. (that was a more extreme case, but i'm sure there are plenty of people who buy CPU without buying a board)

nevertheless, 3.7 GHz is the highest stock clock i've ever seen in my life. so good job AMD.
hopefully intel will follow this lead

An Athlon II X4 is still $70 cheaper than the 970 ($100 vs $170), so my point about the significant price difference still stands.

And what would $70 spare help a HTPC without secondary uses more than the L3 cache? GPU wouldn't be necessary, extra RAM wouldn't be either (Even 2GB would probably be fine), the only thing I can think of is an SSD instead of a normal HDD and that'd only work if you moved files and stuff on to another computer/hard drive.

I think the whole point of AMD cpu's is to confuse people with high clock speeds and make them think theyre getting a bargain

That's what intel did with the pentium 4's. I think for the price/performance you get from these chips there amazing! They also run very cool.

Phenom and Phenom II are tweaked Athlon64s, which is a tweaked Athlon Classic in itself, so at least a bit of the architecture has been from around 180nm down to 32nm with Llano.
It's nice to know AMD boards are up to par with Intel's. Wow, Phenom II is based on Athlon 64? AMD sure has went a long way with the same architecture, awesome how it still keeps up with i5's and i7's. The Phenom II 980 would make a nice cheap gaming or HTPC setup.

There is one big difference, no "native" SLI (yes we know it can be hacked, hence the quotation marks). It's important to a small minority.

I would take a AM3 over bulldozer right now because of my budget.

Then again i could always save for bulldozer and get it a couple months into its cycle.

Why are they still developing/releasing things for AM3? Concentrate on Bulldozer!

LMAO

Only about a month or two ago I was talking to someone on here who was gonna send AMD pics of his well overclocked Phenom II X4 and they asked him for the batch number. I told him not to tell them because I suspected they'd up it by 100MHz/200MHz stock clock and charge more for it. Looks like they actually did, and I was spot on, hahahaa!

P.S. if this thing can't hit at least 4.5GHz on air, it is a worthless release.
