Sapphire HD 6950 1GB vs 2GB - Page 2

There are quite a few benchmarks around and at seems like a 6950 with missing shaders is overclocked to 6970 clock speeds, it's within 2-3%. either one is really great but depending where OP lives the price difference could be pretty large.

I'd go the 2GB if you're on 64-bit os, I mean, can you actually give us the price differences? As I can get the 6950 2gb for ~$290 aus, which isn't expensive. And the 2gb is faster and possibly can be unlocked, though apparently from word of mouth sources I have read on these forums from posters that the 6950 does not always unlock and you don't want to bet that it will.

You should go for the one that you'll be happiest with the stock performance of, and if that's the 6950 2GB, then consider unlocking as a bonus.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...gb-review.html hope that helps too.

I tried looking for the review where someone on OCN had a bench mark review on the 6950 1gb 69502gb stock, 6950 unlocked to 6970 and o/c 6950. Anyways the diff from a 9650 2gb o/c vs flashed was very minute maybe 2-3% like the other person stated. Honestly if the only thing ur going to be doing is gaming on 1 monitor 1080 then the 1gb is fine and will max out if not come close to everything u put it through. Now if u plan on gaming on 2 monitors with higher resolution then go with the 2gb version. If u do plan on getting the 2gb version to flash u must get a reference board and not a REV2 for these cant be flashed. And one more thing the 2gb version will not always flash.
http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...l#post12706076
I also made a review on the 6950 w/c blocks if u want to read it to help u out
I hope this helps u out

As tempting as the 1GB version is, for the price the 2GB 6950 is the golden nugget right now. If AMD have ironed out many of their driver issues its a great GPU.

I went with the 1Gb version myself as I too am running a single monitor at 1080p, I ordered one for $219 yesterday. For that price I can't complain.

2gb ... AA/AF, high resolutions, Eyefinity.

The 1gb buffer just doesn't compliment the 69xx series GPU well, and is, IMHO, a bottleneck.

IF you want to limit yourself to 1gb, buy a used 5850 for ~$150 or less.

Ok.. Price diff is big.. 1GB model is arnd RS 13000 and 2GB around 16500 . Thats close to an 80USD difference. One thing everyones ignoring is that im gonna use the same monitor at 1080p.
Another question. Will the card fit in my cabby? it can fit the 5750. How much bigger is it

I've seen the benchmarks for the difference between 6950s and 6970s... At stock clocks it seems to be around 10%, maybe a hair more. Since the 1GB card will perform on par with the 2GB card at these resolutions, I say save your money, OC the 1GB card a bit and you'll be running a 6970 stock performance at a lower price.
