How To Ground Proplery?

I am making a xbox 360 portable and was wondering how to GROUND the electricity properly? Do I just screw in the grounding cable to a piece of metal? Or can I leave out the grounding cable completely?

So do I have to screw in the Grounding Cable to the case of my 360?

Currently the Xbox 360 has a grounding cable to the metal chassis

If you are making it portable, you will probably want to make a negative ground, attach the ground to the negative terminal of your battery, establishing that as your 0V, ground. The positive terminal will be +12V/whatevervoltageyouneed, as it is done in vehicles:

That should be fine but it is hard to tell without knowing more about xboxes, some signals need to be centered around 0V, and have a dual sided power supply, I am not sure, to be honest.
