Yeah it was a bit much, but for everything I've read - they are worth it. This won't be a silent rig, but the GT's will help it be much quieter for the amount of fans then if I went with something else.

Thanks!

The pedestal and fans arrived this week, and a few more odds and ends from Case Labs should be here this week also. I hope to have a few pics of the pedestal up in the next day or so, and then I'll be starting on painting the fans.

The NAS build in the pedestal will be started on first mainly due to the fact that I have the pieces for it already. More to come in the next few days as this build finally starts to take off.

EDIT - I also cleaned up the first post a bit, and added more of my overall build plans to it. I also removed the couple of pics I had up of the interior paint ideas, as those of now changed.

Cheers

@Hybrid - Sadly, this build is going to go a touch slow here at the start. A lot of things I couldn't be sure of until I had the case. Now that I do, I've been able to order the res and a few other pieces I had to measure for so I'm hoping it will pick up soon as things start to arrive.

As another note, thanks to a quick tip from OCN member werds, I was able to pick up 20 GT AP-15's this morning. That's right 20!! They'll be painted and used through the whole case including the NAS box. $280 for fans . . . my wife's gonna kill me . . .

I agree, pre-planning was difficult since there were so many unanswered questions that without it right in front of you are nearly impossible to get right. One of the reasons I love everyone's build logs, because it allows me to see several new angles beforehand. Now that I have my case I plan on documenting as much as possible... possibly to an extreme... but at least for people like me it might be helpful in the future!

BTW I really am looking forward to seeing the final results of your build!

I am hoping to do the same. I had some great ideas on paper, but until I got the case, it was hard to know for sure what would work or not. I'm a complete noob at photos - but I'll do what I can. I'll be explaining as I go . . . probably too much so, but it is my log after all! rolleyes.gif

I'm watching your build as well. Good luck.

Thanks for taking a look Rick. The case is very large. Even though I measured it and thought I had a good idea of it's size - it's something else entirely when you actually see it. oddly enough, for a few ideas I had I'm finding I don't quite have enough room . . . hmmm

On another note - PAYDAY!!

With no minor emergencies on the horizon, bills have been paid, and the groceries are stocked, I'm finally able to order the rest of the gear tomorrow.

Case, pedestal, and fans are already here. Paracord and res are enroute. I'll be ordering all the water cooling gear, wiring and misc connectors, and paint supplies tomorrow. I also have a design into a local plastics shop to cut the windows panels and another few misc peices for the pedestal NAS that should be done in a week or so.

My game plan for this week is to begin painting the fans and sleeving once it arrives. I'm also going to start on the painting of the pedestal NAS project.

I'll have a few teaser pics up tomorrow, and then the build will kick off this week . . . finally!

Well, teaser pics didn't happen. I also came home last night to find my main rig's power supply has gone Tango Uniform so now I am without any PC at home besides my wife's laptop. So without it, my gaming comes to a screeching halt, but will allow me to start the build a bit earlier.

Tonite I will be prepping the GT fans for paint and possibly starting the first cuts on the pedestal to prep it for paint as well. I'll post some pics in the next few days.

Update 2

So finally after a few months of planning, it is all about to come together! Most of the toys have now arrived. Since my daily rig has died, I have little excuse not to get started on the new one. Here are some pics of the new gear to tide you all over. Enjoy!

Note: I'm using a simple point and shoot camera and don't pretend to be a photographer, but I think they turned out pretty good for an amature!

Here are a couple shots of the pedestal. Normally this comes with 5.25" flex bay in front and x2 140mm fan openings in the back. Jim customized this a bit for me to have a flex bay on both front and back.

A shot through the side panel - both sides will be modded and a window added
ss852262.jpg

Here you can see the two flex bay fan mounts with HDD cages attached

Here is the pedestal mounted underneath the M8 case.

Next up we have some shots of some of the new gear going in this case.

Yes - that is indeed a stack of 20 of the mythical, always sold out GT AP-15's fresh from Germany!

ss852268.jpg

A couple shots of the 450 paracord that I'll be using for sleeving
ss852271.jpg
ss852272.jpg

A pile of water cooling gear and pins. Over 200 female pins and around 60 or so male pins . . . why so many might you ask?
ss852274.jpg

Arctic Clean and MX-4 TIM
ss852276.jpg

EK 5870 water block - there will eventually be two of these for Xfire 5870 goodness!
ss852277.jpg

Underside of the 5870 block. OOH shiny!
ss852280.jpg

On the left is the EK Supreme HF for the main PC.
On the right is the EK Supreme LT for the NAS in the pedestal.
The nickel finish is flawless. Even the side going up against the CPU is a perfect mirror finish!

ss852285.jpg

Swiftech 35x water pump
ss852288.jpg

A couple shots of the XSPC RX360 - 2 of these are going in this build
ss852289.jpg
ss852293.jpg

Bitspower compression fittings 1/2" ID 3/4" OD
x14 compression fittings
x2 pass-through fittings
x4 90 rotary fittings
x1 45 rotary fitting
x1 T adaptor
x4 30mm extenders

Yeah . . . those weren't cheap
ss852299.jpg

I also received x3 WD 2TB green drives, a corsair AX1200 PSU, and a Seasonic X-series 560w PSU along with numerous other misc pieces and parts.

This weekend will be all for the fans. Prepping, painting, and sleeving.

Update 2.1

My cousin is a budding artist, and so I enlisted his help a bit on this project. There will be a total of 5 window panels in this case when I'm done. I wanted some artwork to be etched into them so it would glow when the panels were side lit. Below is a link to his deviant art page for anyone interested, and a few pics of the rough sketches. The sketches are being changed up a bit, and will be converted to vector art for the etching process.

Deviant link

Fire! I love this pic. It is going to look great glowing red.
firesketch.jpg

Ice side window covering the PSU's and the skinny one will be the front right window. The skinny pic is getting cleaned up to be a bit less cluttered as well
icesketchmain.jpg
icesketchsecondary.jpg

Last is the horizontal windows on either side of the pedestal. These will be lit green. The final version will be similar but a few less "grass stalks"

Until next time . . .
