Thanks for all the replies folks.

The RMA board has finally shipped, and I should have it by next week. I'm crossing my fingers that the issue has been resolved and I can FINALLY get this thing rolling.

In other news, AMD Bulldozer was finally released. I had been planning on a Bulldozer build from the begining . . . and the chip's launch has not been met very well by most users so far. Personally, I'm torn. I don't know if I'm going to jump on this chip or wait for the next gen to come out. For what I'll be using it for, I think it will work perfectly . . . but again, I'm torn.

I have put this whole project on hold while I was waiting on the board to RMA. This weekend I'll blow the dust off and try and get the lighting wrapped up. Look for an update next week.

My thanks to all those folks sticking around to see how this finishes up. The wait is almost over.

Nice to hear you'll be able to make some progress on the project. I'm not a patient person, I know this would be killing me waiting for the parts to come back. How's the arm doing anyways, sounded painful what ya did.

Patience . . . not my strong suit either heh! Somehow I often find myself in situations where it is forced upon me though.

Being without a PC for the past few weeks has been frustrating at times, but has also given me the excuse to catch up on some reading and family time. Reading OCN on my iPhone just isn't the same though . . .

The arm is better, thanks for asking. Turns out it wasn't a pulled muscle like the doc thought, but a stretched bicep tendon. I've been in physical therapy for a few weeks, and it's a slow heal. I can move and use it, but can't bear much weight on it. At least there won't be surgery, which Im greatly thankful for!

Best wishes from Poland! I hope you'll heal quickly!

I'd be also torn between older and new AMDs. I've seen tests indicating old Thuban being considerably faster in some of the tests than BD. On the other hand, AMD to its own demise build too much hype around the Bulldozer... To be honest, many readers here doesn't care that much what kind of hardware you put in, as long it's liquid cooled smile.gif So suit yourself. And think, does the old one really lacks power so much to upgrade?

@dmanstasiu and Maniak - thanks for sticking around guys

@Vatharian - I appreciate the good wishes. Injuries are never fun - nor convient

I currently have a PHII 965 quad. While it runs just fine, I almost am forcing myself to get bulldozer as that's what I had planned from the beginning. Even though it isn't performing amazing in benches, for the video work I'll be doing, the 8 cores will be beneficial. Plus, the OC headroom seems to be quite large. Choices choices . . .

At this point, I'm going to finish this stage of the build with the chip I have. I already have a few things in mind for another run of mods on this case, but it will have to wait for a bit. I'll look into upgrading the chip at that point.

On another note, the RMA'd board came in today. I had enough time before work to crack the box, but nothing else yet. It is my board not a new replacement, and there were no notes as to what (if anything) they did to it. I called ASUS customer support and they said they couldn't tell me anything. Fingers crossed that the issue is resolved when I test this weekend.

Personally, I would get a Thuban if you need more oomph and extra cores. I too was disappointed to see BD come up short like that. Plus, Thubans should see a price drop, so now is the time imo thumb.gif.
