Anyone successfully ported a phone number from an AT&T contract to a...

Anyone here (preferably in the US) successfully ported/migrated their cell phone number from AT&T (contract) to Virgin Mobile?

People say it's possible, some say it's worked, while others say it was taking a week long with no results, and VM apparently has poor customer service with this task.

Any input anyone?

I'm so frustrated with the mandatory data plans on AT&T, I'm considering going over to VM because they have a $40 1200 anytime minute + unlimited text/data/web, which wipes the floor with AT&T three times over. Only thing I'm worried about is retaining my current number because losing it would be a pain.

There are so many factors that affect porting a number that it's close to impossible to predict with certainty whether it will be successful. The #1 thing, though, is if your number was originally ported from somewhere ELSE, then you'll almost certainly have problems porting it again. Other than that, it almost always works (even with delays).

Ah, thanks for the feedback. Well, I've had this number ever since I started using a cell phone--damn, for the better part of 10 years now--so perhaps all will go okay. I guess you're right, there might be delays, but it should eventually work.
