Cross-Fire 5850 with 5830? - Page 2

well ya if you read my above posts....

The slower card runs the clocks for both cards.... if you over clock then you could maybe get the 5830 to 5850 speeds... maybe

Someone on here did a comparison a while back with a 5750 and a 5770 in crossfire.

The 5750+5770 did slightly better than the 5750+5750, and a little worse than the 5770+ 5770
ok then it will be close enough to the same... that better... close enough and a waste of a 5850 imo... that is if you dont OC the 5830 to 5850 clocks

The cards will run at their maximum potential. They won't slow each other down.

The 5850 will run more of the screen than the 5830 will.
Your performance will be between 5830 and 5850 crossfire.

But my friend was wondering can you even crossfire with a x4 PCI Express 2.0 slot with the first running at x16?

Yes, you will lose about 5-10% performance off a 16x/16x setup. Perhaps a little more or less depending on setup.
