[myCrysis] Crysis 2: No SandBox3 editor, no advanced graphics config, no DX10/DX11! - Page 42

"That is an economic argument. Nor was I trying to imply that piracy is the only reason why PC gaming doesn't get the attention we all wish it did."

I highly agree. If every pc gamer out there is complaining, do something about it? STOP pirating eh? But i know.. what about the half other million people? We all really need to stop and think. Don't you want more PC games being made instead of console ports? Let's not forget one valid point here, they did console ports because it sells. Unfortunately greed takes place first on their minds.

We were greedy why shouldn't they be now?

Those of us with both PCs and consoles should just do the smart thing if presented with a game that we like but dislike the company/the port job/ the lack of polish/etc. Don't pirate the next one, just GAMEFLY it. I hated how primitive the Dead Space 2 MP was so I plan on using Gamefly when DS 3 comes out. I hated how buggy Fallout 3 was so I plan on using Gamefly when the next Bethesda title comes out. You don't pirate, you don't give money to a dev that you think is halfassing it and you get to play.

If a dev stops developing for PC then so what?! It wasn't until the last decade that the major devs made games on PC anyways. There will always be devs to fill the void.
This argument I don't get, I have never pirated a game.

I am not saying that I am a shining example of how not to be a pirate, but I have never pirated a game.

On the second read trough I do see a point , but all I see is "if it's crap don't pirate and if it's good do pirate".

What happened to the godrays for example? The heavy use of normal mapping on textures? The more impressive lighting and water effects?

Many people seem to be under the impression that Crysis 1 in DX10 is quite a bit better than in DX9 mode. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Very High DX9 vs DX10 is almost 100% indistinguishable. See the comparisons here:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6182140/index.html

THIS is what I have a big problem with.
I think there are 2 reasons behind this:

1. Those areas in Crysis 2 that people seem to be taking issue with (ground detail, ceiling detail ) are the areas that Crytek plans to use Dx 11 on and when Crytek enables Dx11, they're aiming for a balance where people without the $500 GPUs can enjoy tessellation without watching a slideshow.

2. The HEIGHT of Crysis 2 makes some of the things that Crysis 1 did, impossible without severely impacting the game performance.

Of course, I'm guessing b/c I don't have the game in my hands yet. 18hrs to go.

I see what you mean. People with lower end DX11 cards may get raped when the patch is released but they can enjoy it now, at the sometime Crytek just needs to release it "if" it's finished. It's going to be a slideshow no doubt, looking forward to it. I didn't buy a GTX 580 because I wanted to see if Crysis needed that kind of power, apparently it doesn't so I made a good decision staying with the 6950. I'm sure I'll have to buy that 580 once the patch arrives.

I'm glad that I didn't pre-order. I love Crysis and Crysis: Warhead (bought both when they were first released). I don't love what this release offers (or doesn't)

I couldn't care less dx10 vs dx9; I just don't see a difference. I can tell the differences that things like tessellation make on a game though. This is why I don't see a reason for dx9 on a game made years after dx10 was released on the PC platform. Further, the lack of configuration options show that the PC is a second-class citizen for this release.

@some people
Some people here seem to be under the impression that performance is so much better because of optimizations. This is only true in a VERY limited way. Crysis had some optimization problems (most seemed to be fixed with some reconfigurations), but the reason for the sudden "boost" in performance is mostly due to simplified geometry, smaller textures, limited effects, and a MUCH smaller draw area. Simply put, this game gains performance at the expense of quality.

I DID support Crytec in the past. I realize that they have no obligation to me, but I also have no obligation to them. Since I am not obliged to buy this port.... I won't.
