noob water cooling question

Thread Starter
Hi, new to water cooling and planning on changing my system from AIR to WATER next month. I was just wondering, I have a HAF X case, will I need to drill any holes for installing the Rad and Pump, stuff like that? I plan to put get a XSPC RX360 radd and put it on the top of the case.

The RX360 is quite nice, you shouldn't need to drill any holes to be honest, I'm assuming it's like the Obsidian 800d and is designed to have rad's mounted internally

The HAF-X should fit a thick 360mm radiator such as the XSPC RX360 quite easily without modification.

The pump in the kit mounts in your 5.25" drive bays just like an optical drive, you just need a screwdriver.

EDIT: I thought you wrote kit, my bad. Ginger's post below mine explains pump/res mounting quite well.

The HAF X takes a 360 in the roof without modding.

For the pump, it depends on where and how you want to mount it. I have my pump sitting at the bottom of the case on some Petra Tech Gel Stuff to reduce vibration and it is pretty stable there.

The res might need some mounting holes, again depending on which res and how / where you want to mount it. Shouldn't take much, and there are always non-drilling options available, such as 3M sticky pads, velcro pads or even zip ties.

Yes a RASA RX 360 rad will fit in the top nicely on the HAF X. It fits well in my 932 which has the standard metal finish instead of the black. You will have more than enough space to fit that rad in the top here is a pic for reference.
You will need to remove the top part of the case with the front connectors in it. There are 3 screws that you have to remove to take off the top to get at the last 2 screw holes in the front of the case.

The HAF X will mount the RX360 rad in the roof fine. I would recommend mounting the 120mm fans on the top of the case under the panels. Gives you more room. The HAF X case is tighter than a 932 from the roof to the mobo, so keep this in mind. It still fits, but less room. As for pumps, you can just get the XSPC RASA RX360 kit and use the X20 750 pump/reservoir combo that it comes with in two of the 5.25" bays.
