DNS Server isn't responding

Thread Starter
I woke up this morning and tried to get on the internet. It said that the DNS server isn't responding. I haven't ever had this problem before so I don't know what to do. If you could help me I would appreciate it.

What is Google Public DNS?
Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.
To try it out:
Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers or
Read our configuration instructions.
If you decide to try Google Public DNS, your client programs will perform all DNS lookups using Google Public DNS.
Be sure to set those IP addresses as the Preferred and Secondary DNS Server in the IPv4 Configuration Tab on your Network Adapter.

Sounds like your ISP is having issues if it's never happened before. Could lead you to "some" reimbursement. 45nm is guiding you to a good work around until things are back to normal though.

You shouldn't have to use the Google DNS servers. You should be using your ISP's DNS server, I would check your network device settings and your router.

If the internet was down it would tell you the same thing, don't let Windows try to tell you whats wrong (it isn't very good at that).

The first thing your browser does when trying to get to a website is asking the DNS what IP address goes with the URL. If the request is not replied for any reason, it assumes the DNS server is not responding, which is actually very rarely the case.

Its been 19 hours, are you still having the issue?

Pro tip to actually diagnose DNS:
1) Ping known IP address (even 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 will fill this need.
2) Initiate an NSLookup against a hostname (google.com).

Ping works but no A record response, your DNS server isn't working.
