Connecting to BFBC 2 server trouble

Thread Starter
So I keep trying to connect to EA to play BFBC 2 online but I'm getting this issue where my internet drops out when I click search in the sever list, it then takes about ~2 minutes to come up with a note saying that it can't connect to EA even though it signed me in with no problems. I then exit the game to see this yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle on network coverage bar, it means there is limited access to the internet. Every time I try and connect this happens, and it losses the internet connection on all the computers in my house (little exclamation mark)
Dead Space 2 multilayer works fine.. same with C&C3TW, both EA.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can fix it?

EDIT:
I have done the basic diagnostics..

The last time I saw something like this was in World of Warcraft. You'd log in and lose internet connection. It was caused by their servers pushing too much info at your modem/router making it freak out and crash. Those who could not replace the modem/router just had to suffer thru it, removing power to the modem and waiting a minute, power it back up and log back in. That way, little by little, they were eventually able to get the data the servers were pushing.

I suspect it's a similar issue here. Do you power cycle your modem? (remove power, wait a minute and plug it back in) or does internet come back on its own? If it doesn't come back on its own I'd try replacing the modem. Also, if you could, try it when no one other computers are on in your network.

Have you ever used the TCP Optimizer program from speedguide.net ?

If you haven't -- don't -- theres a setting that affects connecting to the EA servers and is on by default (after running the program). EDIT: Its called ECN Capability.

Really weird that it cuts out the internet across your whole house whenever you try to connect.

No, it doesn't fix itself automatically, I have to do as you said, power cycle it..
But it's working with Metal of Honor? which seems to be a very similar game when talking about layout of the server list.
If I am to get a new modem which do you recommend?

I'd call up your ISP and ask what modems they support.

I am stuck with AT&T (did I mention I hate AT&T lately? ) and I'm stuck with either a Motorola DSL modem or a Slipstream Modem. Both normally die right after a year (new or refurbished, doesn't matter). Hope your selection is broader.

Thanks Razinghail, I'll look into it
Weird thing just happened to me, I logged in and instead of clicking the refresh button on the server list I went into my favourites to see, ocn server, with 4 people in it!?! I then tried to join and it did!! I don't understand why it wont work when I click to refresh.. but it's working with my favourite servers...
