Will an upgrade from 955 to 2500k unlock the potential of my SLI 570's?

I am currently in a situation to aquire a 2500k and an msi p67a-gd65 b3 new for ~$280 after selling my current mobo+cpu to my brother.

I have the $280 to spend so I guess its a matter of if it is going to make any noticeable difference with my gaming performance. I feel like I am cpu limited in most games at 1920x1080, and I would like someone with a 480/570/580 sli to comment with some of their experiences if possible.

These are my current numbers with my 955 at 4.2, nb at 3000, ram at 8-8-8-24 1600 @1920x1080
3dmark11 is around 8800p-8950p
Crysis (original, no mods, max settings, 8x aa) 60fps in indoor areas with no fighting, 30-45fps in outdoor open areas.
Crysis warhead (max 8xaa): Same, 40's in open outdoor areas
Metro (max settings except for DoF and physx, AAA) 47fps avg, lots of drops during regular gameplay.
BC2 (max, 8xaa) One of the few games that I don't notice much lag, only during heavy firefights, mostly stays 55+

Not on my computer right now, so I can't post any in depth numbers til tomorrow night, but those are the numbers I can remember off the top of my head.

So....will the upgrade bring a big enough difference to make it worth the cost? My big problem right now is that even though I have ~$700 worth of gpu I am still unable to run games like metro smoothly. Playable? Yes. But the lag just takes me out of the game way to much. Looking to see if the upgrade will keep me mostly @50+fps in most games (obviously some are poorly coded or ports and those are exceptions)

Possibly.
Maybe a 30% again, but that's an estimate.
But at that 1080 res, it's more GPU dependent more than anything.
Since your Quad is at 4GHz+, which is plenty enough for games right now, you can wait it out and see what Bulldozer has instock for you.
Then decide what to do.

However, if a cpu is lets say for arguments sake 30% faster clock for clock, an i7/i5 at 4ghz is like my cpu at ~5.2....

or looking at it the other way my cpu @4.2 is equal to an i7/i5 @2.94....

So it depends on what the 4ghz can actually do even though they both say they are running at the same speed, if one is doing more with that speed then they aren't really equal.

If I have this all wrong I apologize and feel free to correct me, this is just from what I've read on a few sites.

Definitely.

Even a Lynnfield i5 750 would be an improvement.

The architecture is just faster and more efficient.
