Test out just that one card. I'll bet it doesn't perform near what a 4890 should either.

RMA it again, tell them you expect a card back that works properly. When you get a new one back, sell it and get rid of XFX as a whole....buy another 4890 from a reputable company.
Do what this guy said before you re apply the thermal paste, would save you time if it doesn't work properly.

Should be a (99%) mirror finish if there is no paste left. Was the case with both of mine. I cleaned my paste with some cue tips and those towels for cleaning glasses (I haven't got the right word here, but they're very good for cleaning and they look something like this).

Personally didn't use a liquid. But you could always dab a cue tip into some mineral oil and make sure it doesn't drip. Personally I would steer clear of it.
So sexy it Hz

If you push hard enough you may can get a HD 5830 from them. If they sent you one of the ones that run hot. Tell them its unacceptable and RMA again. If you dont wanna HD 5830 cuz of ur crossfire make sure they send you one of the good revision ones.

Just a good lint free towel, some use coffee filters, and a little rubbing alcohol is best. I usually get the big stuff off first, then a light amount of alcohol dabbed on towel or filter.

Applying a proper mount is going to help, but the fact of the matter is, that card does NOT have any sort of VRM cooling at all, and the stock cooler is laughable at best for the amount of heat that GPU puts out.

You really should RMA it and push for a PROPER card out of them. If not, then sell the new card in box, and buy a better company's 4890 to use in your crossfire setup.

And yes, you should use the highest percentage rubbing alcohol (you can find, I'd say 75% being minimum) + coffee filters / Q tips.
