Overclocking II 6?

Can anyone give me an estimate on what I should be going up to max as far as GHZ?

I don't want to damage anything, and I'm using an H70. Just a general range would help alot.

Thanks

In my experience, the GHz isn't really the cap the chip needs to stay away from. It's more a danger of high voltages and high temperatures. Keep the temps under 70C in Prime95, and the voltages will vary depending on your chip's architecture.

Be patient and do it right, and your CPU will love you for it :-)

Edit: FYI, that's a 4GHz man-sized overclock, IMHO that should be the END result of OC'ing, not the beginning :-p

You are talking about a Phenom II x6 processor, i assume. If so then the OC is soley dependent on your ability to keep the processor cool. The processor throttles down @ 50C making any OC that under full load that reaches 50C a waste. In my personal experience with an H50 with a 200x38mm fan running @ 3000RPM i can keep A 3.8ghz OC under full load for extended amounts of time. A 4ghz up to 4.2 ghz OC is very sustainable however if you enter into cpu dependent essences of a game full screen (as most games are played) and the processor reached 50c you can obviously tell that the processor throttles down and the game lags intensively due to the setback.

Hope this was helpful if you need any other help with your x6 pm me

If you were talking about the I5 650 listed with your build then you can OC as high as you feel probably 4.1-4.2 without setback because intel's max temps are much higher. I would still have to say keep it around 3.6-3.9 as most programs/games aren't that cpu intensive. Most are GPU intensive.
