Diminishing...space?

I'm having an issue..

Whenever I download a program (for example, Microsoft Office 2010), which is about 700MB, I put the installer on my C drive. Therefore, C drive goes from 203 GB to 202 GB. I install it onto my F drive and then delete it from my C drive. C drive does NOT go back to 203 GB. I uninstalled Office again due to an issue and had to do it again. Put it on C drive like before, it went to 201 GB, installed it again on the F drive, deleted from C drive, and it's at 201 GB still.. ***?

I have 2xCrucial RealSSD C300 256GB so... anyone?

Could be temporary files left behind by the installer. Try running CCleaner to clear that out.

Welcome to temp files + registry. C:\\ is your OS, your OS handles installation of programs and that program has folders in mind it is going to store information in on the OS drive on C:\\. Appdata and so on will gain in size and it is outside of your control, what you can do is make the Appdata and similar folders save physically onto a secondary drive but logically it will still be on C:\\ but then you're losing the point of a SSD being fast for your OS and its programs.

@razin: Thanks mate. I ran it 3 times before there were "no more issues" and it still remains at 201GB instead of 203GB. I just reformatted because I had to continuously uninstall Adobe Master Collection multiple times and I went from 200GB to 193GB after 3 different installs...

@Markisa or anyone who can help: Registry stuff is fine, doesn't take up a lot of space. Are there specific folders that I can delete, such as these "temp folders"?
heavily integrated software like office will leave files and also keys in registry even after un-installed
have you run disk clean up?
disc clean up will not touch registry.
Meta data in alternate data streams?

For specific folders, they aren't well hidden.. only NTFS hidden. Unhide hidden files by going in Windows explorer -> Organize -> Folder and Search options -> View tab -> Show hidden files, folders and drives. You will see on the root of C:\\ you got ProgramData right , explore into that and you will see Microsoft, inside there is an Office folder (mine is 18MB big).. C:\\Users\\<USER>\\AppData and you'll find some microsoft\\office folders but on my system they are less than megabytes so that shouldn't be a problem. Sorry not exactly sure where the chunk of this data is hidden on your drive.

It's possible that the FAT (File Allocation Table) was just wonky and a format (or possibly a chkdsk /f ) could fix it.

Is System Restore enabled? If so, then disable it.

Look at this guy, tossing in a wink for his genius.

I must admit, I never EVER would have considered this. I'm sure I still have some extra files laying around somewhere, which I honestly despise, but after I turned system restore off on my C drive (which I would never use anyways), it went from 201 GB to 206 GB

My savior!

Totally forgot about the volume shadow copy (which system restore depends upon)!
