Bad motherboard?

Thread Starter
Not sure what's causing my problems here, im taking a guess at something being wrong with the motherboard, but i'm not an expert so i hope you all can help me out. My rig consists of:

MoBo--Gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h
CPU--AMD x6 1090T B.E.
RAM--4 x 2GB Mushkin Blackline DDR3 1600(PC3 12800) 996782
GPU--2 x Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 crossfired
PSU--Corsair 750TX

Before i start in on this, i wanna say sorry for it being so long. :-P
At the moment I'm running at all default BIOS clocks and voltages except for my RAM which i have changed to it's rated timings/voltage/clock. CnQ, C1E, and turbo core are all disabled as well.
First, i tried running memtest86 to test the stability of running my RAM at it's rated settings. Well i ended up running into errors at 25% of test 7(moving blocks). I tried testing at every possible combination of timings and speeds from default BIOS up to the manufacturers rating, only to have it run into errors at the same exact spot, every single time. I then thought maybe some of my RAM was bad, so i tested each stick individually, in pairs, and by rotating sticks out. No luck. Same spot each time, i would get the errors and i just feel it's very unlikely all 4 sticks of RAM are bad....and that i wouldn't be getting any BSOD.
Second, I'm using HWmonitor to monitor my temperature and everything. Occasionally out of nowhere, my Vcore and DRAM voltage will jump to almost double what they're set at. Vcore is set as normal in BIOS which would max out at 1.475V as safe voltage i believe? And my DRAM voltage is set at 1.65V in BIOS per the RAM's rated voltage. In HWmonitor, it will sometimes show the MAX monitored voltage for Vcore between 2.2V and 2.5V. For DRAM, it shows a MAX voltage around 2.7V. Each time it does this, my TMPIN0,TMPIN1, and TMPIN2 will jump very high anywhere from 76*C to 96*C, and they will ALWAYS show the MAX temp of each is the same as the other two. Also, the MAX fan speeds show between 3000 and 4000 RPMs for fans rated at less than half that.
So i guess i have to ask, am i way off base on my assumption of it being a problem with the motherboard? or does it sound like a pretty strong possibility that's the problem? Maybe they're separate problems that i just ran into around the same time. i dont ever run into BSOD or any performance problems, it's more of i just wanna be sure my MoBo isn't going crazy on voltages on ruining my other parts or that my parts aren't actually getting to that temperature. Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you're willing to wait, RMA the board.
Keep in mind that voltage detecting software isn't always accurate

Those are very adequate concerns, the x6 processors reporting is off a bit, as for your ram that has to be an error in reporting if your Vcore for either the cpu or the ram were to actually hit those digits you would 1)BSOD 2)Smell/see smoke. =O
Other thoughts::: did you check the mobo's compatibility with the ram?
Also. Enter the bios go to the hardware monitoring section and observe your vcore dram core and fan rpms there. If there isn't an issue in the bios it's obviously a software issue with your new equipment If so then RMA that mobo.

Update bios, Increase ram timings, test each ram module, if you can test each stick, If you can't then your MOBO could very well be bad. Of-course check to see if your ram is compatible, there is a good chance that your ram may be too new for that list.

PinkNinja, i figured i would BSOD or have already burnt out parts if those voltages and temps were actually true. At all times the current value for voltages/temps/RPMs in HWmonitor are good, they never even increase when this occasion happens. only the MAX values seem to instantly change, which leads me to believe it's a reporting problem. Temps/voltages/rpms in the BIOS are always good as well.
I didn't check the compatibility list before buying my RAM, but it's not on there. None of the Mushkin brand seems to be. I just assumed it should be which was my fault, but it hasn't BSOD on me so i figured it was good before i started using memtest. Also, how do i go about updating BIOS? i've never had to before.
Thanks for the help so far, i appreciate it highly

Definitely update the BIOS... early BIOS + that board had many issues

Typically you can download a new bios from your motherboard manufacturers website. I'm not sure about your bios but Asus 790x bios's have an EZ flash feature that you can upload a new bios from your hard drive(even if your using a Raid configuration). Other-wise you will need a flash drive or a floppy to upload the data.

I have this board too,and I have noticed a reading of very low voltages on the ram,3.3,5,and 12V. Is this anything to be concerned about?

well turns out i have BIOS version FF which is from what i can tell the newest BIOS for this board. Memtest still failing at the same point each time and HWmonitor still getting funky numbers. I've seen core temp do it a few times as well.

Heavy--looks like you're having a similar type of trouble with yours in the other direction. i wish i could say i knew how to fix it. lol

Same here,FF is indeed the latest version. I dunno, mine just may be a bug in the application or sensor. WEI also only gives my memory a 5.9.
Have you tried taking all but one stick of ram out then running memtest?
