This following test examined GTX480 SLI at 2560x1600 at x4/x4 vs x16/x16 and met no/very little bottleneck.

Assuming GTX480 and GTX570 are on the same level of performance and as your 20'' Acer P203W is 1680x1050, I think you would experience some but probably not too severe bottlenecking, especially when you turn up AA.

An alternative is to spend the money to get a larger monitor (24-26''?) with 1920x1080.

It depends on the chipset actually. x4 on P55 for instance really hurts perfomance... About 30% loss in average.
Assuming that the motherboard he's gonna use is in his sig, he'll notice a significant decrease when running on x4 on P45 chipset.

Further info for the OP: (see pic 1 below)
A GTX480 on a x4 lane suffers about 7% loss for 18 games averaged at 1920x1080.
Link:http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/N...caling/24.html

-X3- brings up a good point on the relevancy of chipset. And for this, the above number is for an X58 chipset (x16/x16) simulating x4 lane speed.

The OP's sig rig is Intel DP45SG 'Smackover' Extreme which has a P45 chipset. It does not support SLI natively but (assuming it is hacked to run SLI on the 2 PCIEx16 slots) they should be x8/x8, not x16/x4. OP, you need to check on this!

Concerning the impact of chipset with reduced lane speed, Tom's hardware did a study just 2 years ago on five Core 2 generation motherboards with I975X, P965 Express, P35 Express, X48 Express and P45 Express chipsets. As OP is using a P45, the last 2 should be of interest.

Using a pair of Crossfired HD4870 to test the effect of reduced lane speed, it was found that the performance difference between X48 (with x16/x16) and P45 (with x8/x8) is about 5% at 2560x1600. See pic 2 below.

Granted that a GTX570 is more powerful than a HD4870. So, to simulate this difference, I assume
1. a HD4870 performs roughly as a GTX260
2. two GTX260 perform roughly as a GTX470
3. a GTX570 performs roughly 27% faster than a GTX470
So, a GTX570 is roughly 2.5 times faster than a HD4870
As 2560x1600 is roughly about 2 times more graphically demanding than OP's 1920x1080, we can use it as a rough estimation.

Link:http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ss,2095-2.html

Conclusion: running a pair of GTX570s at x8/x8 on Intel DP45SG Extreme suffers about 5% for an average of a number of games at 1920x1080.
(OP, once again you need to check on the x4 issue)

Ave = 1.82 (out of theoretical max of 2.0) at 2560x1600 for an average of 18 games.

If your motherboard doesn't officially support SLI, then the hack may not work work and you wont be able to use 2, so just remember that before you jump for a pair.

damn should have cleared this up, its actually for the Gigabyte P67 UD3r B3 revision board and a 2500k. But now im thinking of just taking the UD4 for 8x8 and being done with the problem and stupid sata ports.

Oh, And i got my screen!!!

For P67 iirc it's no problem to run 16/4x, but i'd really get a 8x/8x board if still possible.
