Just ordered a 6950 2GB!

Thread Starter
I am going to unlock it to a 6970 and OC the hell out of it. I tried finding benchmarks for current drivers but they were all from launch. What kind of frames can I get with Bad Company 2 maxed at 1920x1080, and Rift?

I was looking at the benchies and it looked like the 6970 couldn't handle AA at higher resolutions very well compared to the 570. I hope this is still not true

Current system:

Athlon X4 640 @3.8
4GB
6950 2GB

might want to buy an aftermarket cooler for it if you plan on using your ears in the future

Don't listen to that guy, apparently he doesn't know anything beside posting some useless stuffs. 11.4 really make the 69xx shines. I've gone thru 5 different brands of 6950, 3 different brands of 570 and i can say that the 6950s aren't loud.

sure don't listen to me. I just happen to own one. But loud is 'relative'. For me this stock cooler is loud - especially if you plan to 'OC' the crap out of it. So no need to troll my fine feathered friend

That Athlon X4 is your bottleneck.
You're seriously holding back that 6950.

I agree, It is a very loud card. Especially from the extra heat from unlocking, overclocking, and upping the voltage. It does run cooler than the 500 series though.

I moved from a gtx 570 to a 6950 for eyefinity. and ive pleasantly pleased so far. Unlocking took all of around 5 minutes and im sitting at 900mhz 1.215v right now. Ill push a bit more once the new VRM kit for my accelero extreme plus arrives.

havent had a chance to use it that much but at 3240x1920 I can vsync at 60 with med-high settings (no AA or AF) on bad company 2, left 4 dead 2, black ops, mw2.

It shouldnt have a problem with any games on a single 1080p. But like the others said your CPU is really gonna be holding you back. the 6950 isnt that much of an upgrade from a 5870. If I were you I would return the 6950 if possible and upgrade your cpu setup. Sandy bridge is cheap and lightning fast man

Wait? If the Athlon is your current system then what is the Q9550 doing? That's still a very good system and you'll barely see any bottlenecks with the Q9550 system.

I have the XFX 6950 and I never hear the fan. The fan never goes above 36% even under full load 85 C temp. I guess it depends on the brand.
