Hey! Saw this and thought I'd post. 850W is fine for this setup. Also, I have a HAF X case and I am using a 850W Corsair HX series. The same one someone had linked somewhere here lol. Unfortunately I paid $200 for mine, guess price dropped in the past 4 months XD.
I mounted it with the fan facing upwards instead of downward. But only because this stupid room has a terrible carpet in it and I needed it to breathe so I just faced it up. It runs great and I would recommend it as a perfect psu. Flawless.

i was debating for a bit too when it came to a PSU, so i got the HX850 Corsair for $140 after MIR from Newegg last month.

The HX are about $20-30 cheaper compare to the AX which I hear are fully modular and a bit better.

Ok here goes, the bashing is out of hand!

I just want to say that i am not spreading false info ( SO JUST STOP WITH THAT!!)

i HAVE BEEN ON MANY DIFFERENT FORUMS WERE 100W IS THE MINNIMUIM FOR TWO 580,S, AND HE DOESNT EVEN HAVE ALL COMPONETS LISTED SO HOW DO YOU GUYS KNOW EXACTLY HIS POWER USAGE, (NIVIDIAS SLI ) SITE RECOMMENDS NO LESS THAN 100W, FOR 580,S IN SLI CHECK IT OUT YOURSELF!!

i HAVE NO PROBLEM BEING WRONG, BUT DONT TELL ME TO STOP POSTING AND ACT LIKE JERKS BECAUSE I DONT AGREE!!! I know im not the only person who would recommend a 1000w , just the only one with balls , to go against the click on here!!!!

I'll run a single 580 for a month or so then after a few paychecks ill drop in another 580 and if need be I'll bump up to the HX1000W and drop the HX850W into the gfs computer. When I go to add the other video card ill post back on here to let ya all know if the 1000w is really needed.

Sure the OP could go for a 1kw unit, it would do the job just fine, it would also, be a waste of money. I'd recommend the good old HX850 if you can find it at a sensible price, or the XFX modular 850, or the NZXT Hale90.
The GTX580 pulls around 300w at max load, and the second card won't get over 250w in an SLI config, even with a power sucking high clocked AMD chip or i7 you won't need more than 200w or so for that. With a half dozen hard drives, and a pile of fans, you'd only stress an 850w with that config if you ran IBT and furmark at the same time. No way it'd need over 750w in an actual game. Nothing outside of stress testing will ever pull the maximum draw at any one time, and by that time, all the hard drives will be well below maximum power draw.

according to xbitlabs, a very respectable review site, the 580 uses 264 watts during gaming (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...0_5.html#sect0). furthermore, nvidia's website lists the 580 as 244watts (http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...tx-580-us.html) and using a 6pin and 8pin connections (theres no way those connections could power a rig of 2 graphics cards that required 1000watt minimum lol)

companies tend to overstate the required wattage for systems because they need to factor in old and ****ty psu's that have the majority of their watts outside the 12v rail. an 850 will run your rig fine. mine probably hasnt even used 300watts lol

1000watts is wayyyyy overkill.

OP, i own the xfx black edition 850watts and its a great psu at a great price. itll do you proud

I like this better than the your first post. I have seen tons of reviews ,benchmarks and forums, some say 850W, some say 1000w, for a similiar setup. I have even read posts were people burnt up 850,s with similiar setups, also with a 1000w you have room for future upgrades like 6990, gtx590, wich will most likely require MORE POWER!!!! But i refuse to stop posting just because someone else says im wrong, i feel i am giving honest input with no ill intent!!!
