Need advice on choosing a headset for PC gaming - Page 7

Guess not. I was about to upgrade to a sandybridge setup a few months back when it was first released. Then I heard that it was recalled because of CPU mathematical errors.. That's when I held back.. I really don't want to spend a ton of money on the i7 900 series, and the sandy bridge was a cheaper option with "better" performance.

For now I'll stick with this. I can play crysis on very high settings @ 1920x1080 with no lag at around 30-50 fps. I can also play crysis 2 on extreme, no lag. So until there's a game that I can't play on max, I'm sticking with this.

SVM can be advantageous in situations such as games for that exact reason as the OP stated. Realistic? No. Advantageous in terms of frags? Sure.

I don't recommend ever SVM for music. For gaming, Game Mode with CMSS-3D on and the EAX effects such as MacroFX and Elevation on.

That's what I think too. Svm is good for online games because you can hear far away footsteps loud and clear. In CS office, I can hear someone taking a hostage "ok let's go" from front hall with svm on... And I can also hear glass break from garage. With svm off, I don't hear those far away sounds, at all. It doesn't really make all footsteps sound the same distance and level, I can actually pinpoint their position better. 3d surround is better when I try with it on.

I've always read that everyone turned svm off.. And any time I tried it, I always thought everything was way too loud for my ears. I like to blast music with svm off, but when it comes to gaming.. Idk, I've always been able to know where my enemies are. But this is only in counterstrike source.. Gunshots dont cause me deafness when playing other games like cod black ops or crysis, but things do become too loud (background music, explosions)

For x-fi settings, entertainment mode seems to sound the best for music while audio creation mode is not too far with bit-matched enabled.
And for gaming, I've tried entertainment and audio creation, and it doesn't sound good to me.

Entertainment mode colours the sound far too much for music. Much better to have Audio Creation Mode.
