Meh, I think the NH-D14 is close enough an as close as I'll get to water
Would rather tank $300 on a future netbook, than a water cooling system.

Looks like 1.425V passed! Temps with IntelBurn running are 38.5C core/49 CPU. Tests almost done. I'm going to do additional testing today with just IntelBurn, then take Prime95 or Folding@Home to the pulpit and run it overnight. I think tomorrow I'm going to focus on trying to shoot for the stars and smashing 4Ghz

Intangible: I have the Gentle Typhoons running on my NH-D14s actually; NH-D14 is designed to be a low-airflow cooler, but don't be fooled by the 58CFM of Gentle Typhoons; static pressure should make up for that. Perhaps if you pull a switcheroo you'll get similar temps I have a sort of wind tunnel setup though that I don't know if will be possible with your build; it goes like this:

Antec Tricool medium (62CFM) front bays > GT-15 > NH-D14 >GT-15 > D14 tower 2 > Scythe slipstream 1600RPM (80CFM)

real nice xd 1771. i've owned a couple different coolers including the h50...there's nothing like the d14. i can run my 965 at 4ghz 1.45v and is prime stable for 10 hours. you just can't beat them.

Ask mine...

On the ZALMAN ZM-WB4 Plus block, I managed to go up to 4.21GHz suicide valids, 4.1GHz bench stable.

Swapped with an EK Supreme HF and BADABOOM. 4424MHz suicide valids, 4.25GHz bench stable


I'm looking forward to install a small res that can allow some ice cubes to be dropped (in an attempt to lower idles a bit and go further), aswell as a new radiator with increased performance.


Keep it up mate, that Noctua has paid itself

Daaaaaamn man, one serious beast of an OC! You chip is definitely above average, to be a 125W

You're wanting me to try and finetune the beast o'mine... LLC drives volts up to 1.52 when I put 1.45V in BIOS, so it screws me big time. I'm starting to look a way to get rid of it. Especially when I pump 1.62V to do suicides... Imagine 1.7V across this chip, watercooled. Not a good idea.

Never knew my chip was evem capable of this
I don't have an LLC option in my BIOS though actually, at all. And then again I don't get vDroop/vRaise anyway. Have you tried modifying your LLC voltage setting to stop the vRaise?

yeah, I'm now countering the LLC via dropping the vCore in BIOS

I get 1.44-1.452V if I set BIOS to 1.4V. Pretty serious job the LLC does there


With the LLC corrected I get very solid voltages. The chip seems MUCH more stable than defining a value in BIOS and disabling LLC!



So in the end your chip turned out to be much better than you expected, eh? Grats the Noctua paved the way for a good and profitable journey

Yeah, running at 1.425V for the rest of its life beats running 1.475V for almost 1 1/2 years now then again with cool'n'quiet on it doesn't matter too much. Today or tomorrow I plan to bump the voltage back up to 1.475 and see if I can stabilize 300 x14 (4.2Ghz)
