[OPEN SOURCE] Automatic Steam Backup/Restore Tool - Page 11

once the restore is done, in steam, right click each game that you have restored and click install. it will look like it is downloading the game again but if you look carefully it is 'downloading' way to fast. basicly it checks what files are needed and downloads them.

a more thorough but slow way is the following:
Right click game > Properties > Local Files Tab > Verify integrity of the game Cache
this will do that same as just installing the game but if any files became corrupted it will re download that file.

But how do I tell Steam where I put my restored games ? Coz on new PC they won't be on C:\ Drive they will be on D:\ xD

install steam where you want it (D:\ drive), tell the steam backup tool what directory steam was installed to (Or click the 'find' button), let the tool do its stuff and then launch steam

if you don't know, Steam games get installed within the steam directory.

steam doesnt have a built in function that does that, but if you are a power user you could use a NTFS junction.

If you install steam to 'D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam' that games get put into 'D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps'

You can via NTFS Junction / Symbolic Link.
There are tools that can make these for you; such as Steam Mover and GameSave Manager.

Alternatively, use the following command within a Command Prompt:
Code:
mklink /D Link Target

So version 1.2.1 works correctly, only I can't uninstall those Steam games from Add/Remove programs, after I restored them, right?

You would uninstall the game buy right clicking it in steam > Delete local content. It does the same thing really.

Hey guys! I have updated this program again and added some much requested features. Starting a Backup/Restore is much easier and it allows selective backup and restore. It does have limitations, e.g. Source engine games share a lot of game resources with each other making it impossible to backup individual games that use that engine.

Download Here:
Steam Backup Tool v1.3.0
Source

This program requires .NET Framework 4.0 to run.

Screen Shots:

Change List:
Code:
+ Ability to choose what games in the common folder to backup/restore.
^ Added new info to Job List
^ Reworked how the jobs are indexed (Again)
+ Truncates logs to reduce CPU and RAM usage.
^ Changed how its determined to update the log screen (if the last update was > 250ms). far less CPU overhead, but in some cases it might not be perfectly up to date.
^ Changed the the 7z temp files go.
+ Colored text for certain items in the job list.
