[OPEN SOURCE] Automatic Steam Backup/Restore Tool - Page 13

oh wow, I never looked inside the new .acf files. I have been looking for ages for a way to tell steam that a game is installed, I didn't realise that for the last few months steam has been doing this for me!

I'm going to have to re-write the way the tool discovers the games. It also looks like the the non-'common' games don't use this format yet.

Ill get started on this now.

Edit:

not all games use the .acf file, one example being Borderlands 1. I will have to do a acf search then do a search within the common folder checking if it has missed any games.

The .acf is inconstant as far as filling out all of it details, the game needs it cache verified for it to get all of its details. The installed directory info can either be in 'installdir' or 'appinstalldir'. If it is in 'installdir' the info has escaped backslashes in the directory path or it its 'appinstalldir' it could just have the drive letter as its value. Sometimes both of these can be blank or even missing (See the example below). Furthermore the 'name' can be blank for the same reason.

For Example: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
"AppState"
{
"appID" "3980"
"universe" "1"
"StateFlags" "4"
"LastUpdated" "1331544643"
"UpdateResult" "0"
"SizeOnDisk" "1472615915"
"BytesToDownload" "0"
"BytesDownloaded" "0"
"UserConfig"
{
"language" "english"
"name" "CivCity: Rome"
"GameID" "3980"
"subscribed" "1"
"purchasetime" "1292930102"
"purchasecountry" "AU"
}
"ActiveDepots"
{
"3981" "2026530639164200984"
}
"ManagedDepots" "3981,3982,3983"
}

Lots of silly conditional stuff to make it work properly. >.>

Happy new year guys. I have just finished v1.4.1 it has mostly bug fixes and a few tweaks.

Download Here:
Steam Backup Tool v1.4.1
Source

Change List:
Code:
v1.4.1
+ About Box (Click on the title)
* Fixed notification of a finished job not showing up in the instance text box
^ Show job list button changes when clicked
* Fixed a exception when steam leaves details about a previously deleted steam library
* Fixed double clicking 'Refresh List' would duplicate entries
* Fixed a new steam library was created but there is not common folder to scan while starting the backup dialog
^ Now uses a slower (but much more accurate) way of determining whether a game has been updated since the last backup

Will try it you. Thank you.

I tried your tool to backup my 780GB of games and it is actually very slow... (10 hours later and it did only 70gb)(23 jobs on 111)

Even in the copy mod, using 2 thread (4core)

It is still a lot slower than simply copying the files...

I'm copying from a RAID 10 of 4 1GB WD Black via 1Gbps Network to a RAID 1 of 2 3GB Seagate Barracuda. No Anti-virus or firewalls are running on both computer.

Any idea why it takes so much time ?

Thanks

Having some problems. Can't backup or restore using this tool thanks to "invalid locaton" errors. I have attached a couple of images of these.

Is there anything I can do to rectify this issue?
