And like me, I have lots of friends who blew their 8800GTs just with normal gaming, no OC involved, and said, like me, that they weren't gonna purchase another XFX card.

Not in vain, the shop where I got it stopped selling XFX products a month after we all filed our claims towards XFX.

Hey guys I have a problem. I've wanted to rma my XFX 4870X2 for a year or two now and have stalled. I've probably created 4-5 tickets and let the XFX rep hang. I did this because my XFX is pretty beat up, some of the screws are warn out, a small piece of the back plate broke off when trying to install an aftermarket cooler.

My question is will XFX even look at the card? Or will they just send it right back to me when they see the warn out screws and broken back plate.

never owned a XFX personally but a close friend sent in his GTX 280 and he had to pay $100 for them to send him back something comparable.. they wanted to send a 4870 which is near GTX 260, they charged $100 for a 5850

Agree'd. It would be interesting to know how many cons they have to deal with on a daily basis.

Every part maker is equally capable of selling you a lemon. Its up to you to do your research and decide which warranty works best.

Hard to say. Your best bet is to call them up, be honest and man up to the card's condition, and see what they say. Majority of the times, being nice and honest gets you a lot farther to get what you want done. It certainly can't hurt to try.

Best of luck with it.

Can you give more details?
Why would they charge $100 for a replacement card?

I vaguely remember a similar thread started on this forum that had the same end result. From what I remember, XFX considered the HD5850 an upgrade, rather than a direct replacement for the defective card. In order for the company to honor the warranty replacement, they felt it necessary to charge the $100 difference.

Wat.
So sending in my 5850 requires me to pay XFX $100 to get a 5850 in return.
