Or just wait it out a bit more till AMD chips drop a bit more because of the new ones coming out..
NO. That is an absolute no, foolish sir. DIY combo kits are the most foolish route to take. They're always put together with worst part choice and no research for little discount.
This is also an extremely bad idea. That motherboard is not safely capable of supporting a 125W processor due to the 3+1 power phase.

May I:
Phenom II x4 955 + Biostar TA870U3+ - $205 after promo HARDOCPX316A
Kingston HyperX Blu 2x2GB 1600 CL9 RAM - $45 after promo [see link], $30 AR
Samsung F3 1TB - $54 [Compuplus]
Total cost: $304, $289 AR
$25 saved, better all around parts

Eh, at least a DIY combo kit with an AM2+ processor and AM3 board wasn't suggested no really, I've seen those before...

I say bad idea. The 955 and that motherboard is a very bad combination due to the 3+1 power phase. You won't be able to overclock safely - in fact much rather you would have to underclock to remain safe.

I say go with this combo
Same price, quality 4+1 power phase, same features pretty much
