From e5300 to Phenom II x6?

Thread Starter
Would this be a worthwhile upgrade? I priced it out @ $320 for new cpu, mobo and ram. I would carry over everything else from my current build. Thanks.

Depending on the components is a steal, or a deal not worth taking.

Anyways, with $320 you might wanna wait for Bulldozer. I'm sure you can get one decent quadcore BD based rig with that.

a phenomII x6 1090t costs $200,
a decent mobo like asus m4a89gtd pro usb3 costs $160,
2x2gb corsair xms3/gskill ripjaws 1600mhz costs $50,
total- 410,
so its out of your budget,u cant afford a x6 now with that budget,so start saving for bulldozer.
Hope this helps u

Lol he doesn't need the 1090t he can get a x6 1050t and a cheaper board which would bring his total around his budget. But I'd recommend waiting out for ivy bridge, bulldozer that way sandy bridges/x6 prices will drop and u can compare then and see what's the best for ur budget(you should have more saved up too) Its a win win situation

This, of course!

Most people don't need/want the 1090T. I got the 1055T not because I couldn't afford it, but because I love OCing with the bus and not the multiplier. It's a bigger challenge

Also, I saved me €100 I used to buy an awesome memory kit that has paid itself tenfold.

Just get an ASUS M4A89GTD/M4A89TD/Crosshair IV board. They will support AMD FX series (AM3+/"Bulldozer" CPUs) experimentally
post #9 of 14
get a am3+ mobo and cheap chip like athon 4 640 for $100. dose not overclock well but @ 3 ghz 4 core is good. I love corsair ram so i would get them. am3+ are bulldozer complaint but now ones sure till they get more info out.
