Q6700

Thread Starter
Hello all! Ive just managed to pick up a Q6700 for a 100$ with a generic Mobo, which im assuming is an alright deal. Getting to the point, im Running it in my trusty ole P5B Deluxe W/ unfort. mixed bag or ram, 1gig of OCZ SOE's @ 800mhz and a 1gig stick of Ballistix 1066's.
So far with the info Ive gathered, im under the impression that MAX safe volts is around 1.5/1.55vid and Max Load temps of around 75c. So farim stable at 3375(375x9)1500fsb with a vid of 1.35(bios is 1.4) and my temps so far are 39/38/35/35 and load 69/66/58/57. 1st off are the load Temps safe/ok? Im using my Zalman 9700 to cool and am pretty damn stable so far. Running SuperPi @14secs.
Im pretty sure my ram is whats keeping me from 400mhz/1-1 divider, no matter then multiplier set. Also is it normal for that big of a difference of temps per core? Im taking it that 3d06 is only 2cores at most for usage? Im pulling 14350 in 06, which seems kinda off, cpu scores 5206/SM2 5983 and SM3@5709.

In bios Ive set everything manual save FSB? Termination(I think lol, h ave to double check now. Anyways, any suggestions for getting it higher, are temps and volts ok?
Heres my cpuz for my settings now

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1720350

This other is from running at 3333mhz(333x10) vid of 1.30 and temps around the same, with max only being 65c

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1718778

And info or feedback be greatly appreciated. Nice to be finally in the Quad core group lolz. Retiring my trusty sweet E6300(1.8ghz) at 3.2 was hard, but definetly a nice upgrade

for 100 smacks, thats a great deal! temps and volts look normal. my core temps variate about that much per core also. usually 2 of my cores will be +- about 6c than the other 2 cores. so its normal. sweet oc, see how far you can push that cpu.

Looks good so far and yeah, for 100$ it's well worth it. Also, I would suggest running at 333x10 as you can run your RAMs at 800 since you're running different sets of RAM.

It would also be more easy to get it stable on those clocks.

Temps are all right. Just don't let it go above 71+ Celsius just to be safe, although having said that, 65nm C2Q are made to actually get raped. The difference of the temps on cores may be due to the heatsink not sit properly, check it.

I probably wouldn't go any higher with the temps you currently have.

What is your VID? Mine was 1.26 and at 1.35 actual voltage, I can get around 3.5Ghz. 3.3Ghz was probably around 1.3v for me.

3.3Ghz on a Quad is still a very nice OC. I opted for a lower multiplier also. I'd say stick with x9 on your setup if everything else can handle it. I actually use x8 myself, but I have 1066MHz RAM.

14XXX 3DMark06 was what I got at stock speed with my GTX260. I think I get around 20k @ 3.7Ghz and my GTX560.

Manually set your RAM timings to the slower of the two sticks. Check the table in CPUz if you don't know what the stock settings are. They should at least do 400FSB/DDR2 800.

Hey all, thanks for the insight and input, muchos gracias!!! Come to the conclusion, that A) my ram is definetly holding me back past 400fsb, which is kinda strange as my board & ram had no probs with my E6300 going up and beyond 400/450 with alright temps. And B) my thermal paste is pure garbage, ran out of AS5 and only other I had was the ****ty white ceramic stuff, its idling at 31 31 37 37 now @ 1.25v's @ 3ghz. Runninng intelburnin topping out at 60-63c, which isnt too to bad I think. For some reason though my Zalman 9700 isnt giving the best contact as It still seems kinda loose with it as tight as it goes, in being I can still move the cooler abit :/ Reseated it last nite and have the temps just posted, cpuz as follows http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1724123
This CPU seems to be a PIG on the voltage, and the Vdroop totally sucks as well.
Tried Auto'ing my Vcore to get it up to 400fsb, but it goes to 1.5vs(actually 1.45? or in around there) and temps around 69-71c, too hot an too much volts I thinks. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1718649
For now, think Ill probably endup at 3.3 @ 1.35 or abouts but the temps seemed kinda high once again. Did notice that after the Intel Burnin, temps seemed to drop and are alot closer then were previously.
Hmm, think leaving some more info out, but in bit of a hurry to get kiddos off bus, Anywooo, figured give a quick update, so once again thanks for the info an help an such, cheers all, Keep on keepin on!!!

I just use Prime to test temps. Intel Burn test gets SO much hotter than ANYTHING I actually use my PC for. Prime95 is still hotter than any game I play, so I just use that. To be honest, I cant even test my Q6700 at 3.7Ghz 1.46vcore because within seconds it jumped to 80C. I immediately stopped it and wont bother to use that program again if I'm worried about thermal limits. While Prime95 will top out around 70-75C. I use CoreTemp and measure "Distance from TjMax" and keep it above 25C to TjMax always. Intel Burn Test was running by that point like it was nothing.

I did test it @ 3.24Ghz and 1.35vcore just to measure my Gflops.

IBT is overkill. I am actually considering not using it anymore. Prime95 small, Large FFT's, blend and memtest should do.
