2600k RAM choices

Thread Starter
I've been reading different posts and everyone says to go with low timings at 1600MHz or more so that you can get every last bit of performance out of the 2600k. What is the best RAM to get? I dont plan on oc it or anything like. Heat isn't really an issue because I have the HAF X case. I would like to oc to 4.6-4.8 and run two 580s. Is it better to go with less sticks more GBs per stick or more sticks with lower GBs per stick? I was thinking of running 8-12GBs

Gskill ripjaws 1600Mhz 7-8-7-24 2*4GB, by far the best memory on the market at a reasonable price for the i5 2500k.

Comps

EDIT - These, they do them in blue as well.

I use the Patriot G2 kit.... very happy with it. Super Fast and Reliable. 16GB in Total ... Two Kits of 2x 4GB. They are very low profile and thin with the heatspreaders, ultra cool and will fit with all of your cpu cooling solutions.

The timings on the ripjaws are much better.

That may be true, but the heat spreaders are huge and dimms are twice as pricey!

What exactly does the timing do? What makes a lower timing better? Sorry I'm new to this.

Lower timing = lower latency = faster system

It's really not all that noticable unless you're benchmarking though.

Don't buy into the hype. Get the cheapest DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V RAM you can. I like this 4GB kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231427 or this 8gb kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231428.

The small % of an increase you get with lower timings and/or higher speeds will be something you would barely be able to notice in benchmarks. So in real world applications/games, you won't see where that extra money went.

Is DDR3-2000 better than 1600? Will I notice a big difference?

No, you won't notice it AT ALL. Also, it's not supported on Sandy Bridge so you would have to run it at DDR3-1866.

If you want to waste money, go buy some DDR3-2133 7-8-7 RAM. Otherwise, see the recommendation I made in my previous post.
