Building first HTPC

Thread Starter
So I bought this box for my htpc, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811204039

its actually alot bigger than I expected, I think it can fit a regular sized mobo. So my question is what mobo would you all recommend for my htpc. I already have a phenom 955 I plan on using, so i do have constraints as to what mobo I can use. Also my plans for my htpc are to stream hulu, netflix, and my private dvd collection. I was even thinking of in the future buying a tv tuner card

Also is there any need for more than on board video if I only want to use it to see videos. Thanks in advance,

-Jon

Great little card if you don't want to worry about 1080p playback. Usually onboard doesn't work too well when it comes to 1080. The more recent APU's do well with it but as far as traditional motherboards integrated graphics...their just not cut out for it.

A quad core should handle 1080p fine by itself... But I'd recommend the dedicated GPU as well.

absolutely not true about integrated graphics.

and onboard hd 4200 is fine for 1080p playback utilizing shark's codec pack.

i have personally played many mkv's and blu rays with a 4200. you will be fine with this board below.

Any AMD 785 chipset with IGP (ati 4200) will play back 1080HD videos. No need for a dedicated video card.

i would do everything possible not to have my processor doing anything when it comes to 2d video playback.

hardware acceleration puts all of the work on the gpu (discrete or integrated).

if my processor was running more than 5% just playing hd video i would be unhappy and trying to figure out what is wrong.

My HTPC has a HD4200 onboard and it's terrible for high quality 1080p playback. After installing an old HD3850 into it, it got much better. Note that my HTPC is running a single core AMD 4000+. I agree that a HD5450 is a good choice.
