Intresting cani I get a link to your mobo

Check out the Gigabyte AMD770-UD3. I'm running my 555 @ 4 cores and 3.5ghz, completely stable. It's a good board.

Yep. And the quality of yours is pretty bad. It shares the designs Gigabyte used in 2007-2008 that were pretty bad. I say get them locked. I suggest the same for you OptimusCaik... that is super cheap!

The 870Extreme3 is a heatsinked good quality 4+1 and is fine

Running my old Athlon II X4 640 at 3.6 with a GTX 465 (900 core, better than 460 by a good bit) worked perfectly well. Saw %100 GPU usage in most games.

L3 can not make up for cores.

Clock for clock the phenom will be about 3-10% more effective than the athlon 2 due to the L3 cache. However newer games benefit more from cores.

Benefits of 555
-Can possibly be unlocked to tri or quad
-Can generally OC to 3.8 ghz minimum
-L3 cache makes each core 3-10% more effective

Benefits of Athlon 2
-Guaranteed Quad
-Generally can overclock to 3.4-3.5 ghz
-Same performance as a Phenom 2 minus the L3 cache

As far as bottle-necking, it will be on a per-game basis. But as of this date I would not go with anything short of a Tri-core. (which with unlocking a 555 should be able to get Tri-core)
AMD, I give up.

i know that you shouldnt rely on unlocking but its just so damn temting! look at the revies on newegg the 555 has like a 8/10 unlock sucess rate i cant resist and say a game came out in 2010 is it likely to support quad? if most newish games are still for dual then no doubt ill go for dual as performance would be same.
