There's no incentive to buy an AM3 board from them if you can just buy an AM3+ board now that can support both AM3 and AM3+ CPU's. Asus on the other hand can clear their inventory, make customers happy AND release revisions of their boards.

The X58-OC tailors to a very small crowd of people, and that small crowd is still yet bigger than the crowd of equivalent AMD'ers. In my opinion it just doesn't seem to make much sense to make some sort of AMD equivalent of the X58-OC, and I suppose GB shares that opinion. Not when 955's are still shattering 7ghz barriers on the boards available today, and some of those boards costing ~$200 or less.

I still rep my Phenom 9x5 club membership in my sig because I loved my 955 and 965, they were awesome and fun to play with. But when it comes to benching with them, you can really only compete against other similar AMD setups. With Intel, you can compete cross platform and I believe that is why the X58-OC exists.

I'm really rooting for this to change when BD comes out, and I am willing to bet GB will come out with a G1 equivalent for BD should it be a success. If we are lucky and BD does level the bench mark playing field, we would probably see a OC version as well.
God i hope they make an x58-oc equivalent for BD because that thing is so sexy. Orange n black

Current AM3 boards cannot and will not be compatible with BD. Not even with a bios update. The pin layout is not the same. You cannot just mod the mobo to block a pin either it doesn't work that way.

All this 3.1 revision business means is new version of the current 890 Boards with the AM3+ socket will be available. These will be compatible with BD.

Socket pin layout =/= CPU pin layout
AM3 - 941 pins
AM3+ - 942 pins
AM3 CPU - 938 pins
AM3+ CPU - unknown, unfair to judge

I'm sticking to my theory of using AM3+ on an AM3 board resulting in a slight reduction of features and no support from AMD, similar to the core unlocking & overclocking that we do all the time. ASUS has just found that it can in fact happen, so they're letting users give it a go. MSI should be doing it with at least one motherboard. Other manufacturers... we don't know yet

It won't work even with reduced features. The same way 1155 and 1156 aren't compatible. 1 pin difference between them.

Besides why would you want to cripple your CPU with reduced features. Its a dumb idea. That's like stuffing socks in your 6 cylinder to make it a 3 cylinder.

ASUS is doing it with just a bios update for their current 890FX boards.

If anything with all the interest in this clearly there is money to be had and would help move current boards... if not I would not buy now.
