Serious issues with Software

First up, I know this is probably in the wrong section but at this point I'm in a serious hurry to get it solved and didn't look as hard as I should have so sorry.

Ok so this morning I logged onto my laptop to go through the emails and do that kinda thing, When I went to run Firefox, It gave me an error saying 'Cannot find 'C:\\program files\\Mozilla Firefox\\Firefox.exe" and I figured that it was just some random software glitch, So I found the installer and reinstalled it and same issue, I went to the directory path and Firefox.exe is there and I get the same issue when I run the .exe from the folder itself.

I thought the installer was corrupt so I went to open up Internet explorer *shudder* What's odd is that it's the exact same issue. So from there I assumed a possible virus, Problem is it's a work computer and is 'Protected' by Sophos anti virus but it won't pick up anything and won't update so now I'm starting to worry, I need this computer for a major meeting in the morning and can't use it if I can't get online with it so any suggestions would be great.

Sorry about the wall of text though

Have you tried to uninstall the Anti-virus and reinstall it and update?,Then scan your computer?I would try that 1st.

Sadly I can't do that since it's all done through work's IT department, I have however tried installing Avast which I was surprised to see had the same problem as Firefox and IE so it keeps looking worse, However I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials on another computer and installed it and it's currently doing a full scan so here's hoping MSE is any good xD

If the problem persist I would contact the IT Department asap.
